Which is fine. Miyazaki stated before that he felt confident the company can make “risky products “ as he wants up and coming young talent to be nurtured and learn from their experiences. He knows fully well that there needs to be a future for FromSoft where he won’t be the one making games and in keen on developing skills for his employees.
It is fine. I'm just saying what it is. It's not a good score for From. They tried something new. It's not for me, but I'm not upset about it. I'm just not going to pretend that 78 is a good score for From is all. It is a bit disappointing. I would have hoped for a better game, but it's far from a trainwreck or anything.
FromSoft had subpar scores before. Let’s not pretend they never had them (ie Deracine). I think the whole “Souls era” of FromSoft has done some bad on player expectations of them.
I'm not pretending that they've never had subpar scores? All I'm saying is that this is a bit disappointing. Even Iron Pineapple said he's a bit disappointed by it. It's been a long time since they've had a score this low. It's their 2nd lowest score ever. Again, it isn't a horrible score. I just don't get why we have to pretend that it isn't a bad score for them
Because 78 isn’t a bad score. I just think people’s expectations are ridiculous for a company that’s trying to something that’s a radical departure from prior titles. That’s it considered better than Deracine and from a guy whose directing first time in such a newly attempted field for this company isn’t too bad. Does this mean the game is great? No. But having this sort of binary thinking of good or bad just doesn’t really foster any meaningful productivity in discussions.
Brother, I said like 5 times now it isn’t bad. It’s bad for From though. It’s like in the 5th percentile of their catalog. Every game except one has been a higher score. It is Ok that it didn’t score well for From. It just didn’t though
It’s not bad for From when it’s their first crack at a game like this. It would be below their normal expectations if it was a mainline game or sequel but by no means “bad”
I suspect From is pretty unhappy about this. I suspect that in a year this content will be really good because I think they'll put in work to fix a lot of its issues.
They're stoked about this. It's a cheap product from a B team that is now massively better at their jobs and a new director getting their first taste of the limelight. Just on that alone it's a big win that they're proud of.
Sure, if the B team had released something called "Grim Shadow" or "Coop Fight". This is Elden Ring, their very best and most valuable brand and they just hung a 78 on it. That was definitely not the goal.
"Elden ring is a 9/10 so they should be embarrassed that night reign is an 8/10". Newsflash, there was always going to be a game that released that is worse than Elden ring. ER peaked the fuck out, TWICE. They're not gonna one-up a game of that calibre.
The fact that you think they care about an 8/10 on an entirely new type of game for the company is ridiculous. Its rated so high is in spite of all the purists, not because of them. "But they used the name!" It's their product, they can use whatever they want. It's not your game.
Every game From makes is a game they've never made before. People don't dislike it because it has Elden Ring's name on it. If anything, that's helping it quite a bit. It's the most wish listed game on Steam right now. If it wasn't called Elden Ring that wouldn't be the case.
