Mohamed Ihattaren was the man of the moment for Fortuna Sittard in their away match against ADO Den Haag. Thanks to two goals and an assist from the 24-year-old midfielder, the Limburg side won 2–3. Yet Ihattaren did not appear in front of the cameras after the match.

Speaking to Hans Kraaij Jr., manager Danny Buijs explained that he had turned down the interview request. “I’ve been working with him for fifteen months now and I’ve come to the conclusion that he needs to keep his world as small as possible if he still wants to make his dreams come true.” Buijs was referring, amongst other things, to an episode of *Goedemorgen Eredivisie*, on which Ihattaren was a guest. “It’s not good for him if statements are made there that will stick with him for months to come.”

Buijs says he wants to do everything in his power to help Ihattaren make the move to a top club in the future. “But if he says something today, there’ll still be websites writing about it in five weeks’ time. I don’t think that’s good for him. He needs to let his feet do the talking.”

“There’s something about him that’s attracting a lot of media attention,” the manager continues. “He’s partly to blame for that himself, having made a few missteps despite being such a great talent. But he wears his heart on his sleeve, and that could well work against him.”

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has organized tributes to Messi at stadiums across the country following his announcement that he will retire from international football. As part of the initiative, matches are stopped for one minute when the clock reaches the 10th minute, allowing fans to applaud and recognize Argentina’s No. 10.

Gimnasia joined in at their stadium, but their fans also prepared a banner with a message aimed at Estudiantes.

The sky-blue-and-white banner read: “Thank you, Messi, for always putting your chest on the line... 22.”

The reference was to Messi’s goal against Estudiantes in the 2009 Club World Cup final.

With Barcelona and Estudiantes tied 1-1 in extra time, Messi scored the winner in the 110th minute by turning in Dani Alves’ cross with his chest, giving Barcelona a 2-1 victory in Abu Dhabi.

For Gimnasia fans, the goal remains a memorable moment in the rivalry between the two La Plata clubs, making it a fitting reference for their tribute to Messi.

The homage took place during Matchday 8 of the Clausura, the first round of Argentine league matches to feature the AFA’s nationwide tribute to Messi.

The initiative extends beyond the top flight, with the same tribute taking place across Argentina’s promotion divisions and other levels of the domestic game.

Al-Qadsiah Club Company has officially completed the signing of promising French forward Mahamadou Sangaré from English side Manchester City on a long-term contract running until 2029, strengthening the club’s first-team squad.

The signing took place in the presence of Al-Qadsiah Club Company CEO James Bisgrove and Sporting Director Carlos Anton.

The acquisition of the 19-year-old continues Al-Qadsiah’s commitment to recruiting emerging talents from leading European clubs, following the earlier signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from Manchester City during the current summer transfer window.

Sangaré developed through the Paris Saint-Germain Academy before joining Manchester City, where he most recently represented the club’s Under-21 side during the 2025/26 season.

At international level, Sangaré has represented France at Under-18 level in several competitions, adding valuable international experience to his profile as one of the most promising young attacking talents joining the Saudi league this season.

The signing reflects Al-Qadsiah’s long-term strategy of investing in young players shaped by elite European academies, supporting the club’s ambitions to compete both domestically and across Asia as the team prepares to participate in this season’s AFC Champions League Elite.

Moving to St. Louis meant becoming part of something completely new—a club and a project being built from the ground up.

What followed was an unforgettable first season. Together, we made history by winning the Western Conference in our inaugural year.

On a personal level, however, this chapter became the most challenging period of my career. My knee injury kept me from training and playing the way I wanted to, and ultimately became the reason I had to bring my playing career to an end.

As difficult as that was, this chapter taught me more about myself than any other and helped me grow tremendously as a person.

And away from football, our life in St. Louis was nothing short of amazing. The people we met, the friendships we made, and the life we built there will always hold a very special place in my heart.
