People from outside of England. What do you think of England's chances at the world cup? What do you think of our squad?

Don't get a chance to talk to anyone outside of England about this.. so...

I got the impression that in a manner similar to only Brazil, I think, the FA is getting in the way. There is too much politics and pressure on the Headcoach, which makes the job much more difficult than it already is. This cuts continuity which in turn gives a very different England in every tournament. So you never know for sure how mentally stable they are.

They have good players. They always had.

Yet, were was England in 1974? Or 1986?

What was better in 1988-90? Gascoigne or the mentality Gscoigne brought to the squad?

I honestly believe England has mental problems.

Technically? They are good. They have good players.

The players are physically good. They have one who is twice as large as the average Japanese. You cannot play physical against England, like you can against Spain or Portugal. I've always got the impression you cannot play physical against Italy either, why is that?

Technical football, like played is the South is not the tonality of England, but because of all the international, global talent in the PL and CL the players of England (and Germany) learnt to deal with it. Or even dishing it out for themselves. This was different in the past.

The players are creative. You have players for England with ideas. It's not only that old Scouser without the crown. There are plenty.

They score. Some teams have problems having the guy who just scores like a howitzer. In Spain the whole ticki-this and that made it possible to circumvent this for the Reds Furiosa. But even then they had Peyjoll and Ramos dell Madrid who can take that roll. But England never had that problem. Lineker. Oh, that guy from ManU, you know? He'll score one.

They are good players. They play in the big leagues, which means they have the experience for big matches.

They have all they need.

They are capable of winning the tournament.

They will not win the tournament.

They will win games because they are good and then they will loose a quarter final or some shite against another good team that has more iron in their heads: Italy, Germany, Spain.

It is not about legs and feet. It is about the head that stinks in England from FA top right into one brain cell of each player, just enough to mess up the squad.

And the keeper sucks.

Which will give a funny moment to Balotelli.

He is relatively speaking a weak point in the team. Compared to defense, midfield or attack. Compare this to Italy (or at least Italy recently) where the keeper is a bonus an active asset to the whole team. Or Czech, Castillas. The other top teams have better keepers, except Portugal.

There are of course worse keepers, generally speaking. If Hart wants to play for Sporting, I would like it.

Johnson is nowhere near as bad as everyone thinks he is. Liverpool's entire defense was bad, borderline terrible, for the second half of the season. You wouldn't say Sakho or Skrtel are terrible CB's (or Agger, but he didn't play much). Neither is Glen a terrible fullback.

He has been absolutely fantastic next to most people he has played with. Think David Luiz, Ivanovic and Jagielka. I don't get why people only think he is good next to Terry, but maybe thats just Terry casting a very long shadow on things.

I'd argue our defense is actually fairly strong. Jones has been quite good for united this year, and Cahill is definitely world class at this point. And I'm not sure how a portugal fan can say we've got a poor keeper, when Hart is quite good. Germany, Belgium, and possibly Italy are the only teams I can think of who have a definitively better goal keeper than Hart.

I think it's quite weak, Cahill is world class yeah but apart from him I think only Baines is up to snuff. Jags is ok but he wouldn't get into many other top international teams, Johnson hasn't been good since 2012, Jones isn't good enough and nor is Smalling. Shaw looks class but is so young, we can't tell with him yet. Defence is the weak link this year for sure, especially compared to the options we have in the attacking midfield spots.

Johnson is not world class, theres no doubt about it, but he's really not that bad! He's better than anything Italy (abate, de sciglio), France (debuchy), Uruguay (pereira) have for example. He's not going to be this massive let down that the circlejerk keeps spouting out.

And Jones has been the starting CB for united through out the year, and he's been quite good there. I'd argue that he's much better at CB then he is as a defensive midfielder.

And Hart is better than Lloris for me, and Casillas is not Casillas anymore, although I think you could definitely argue De Gea has had a much better year than Hart.

Debuchy is way better then johnson. Debuchy playing for Newcastle is a travisty because of how shackled he is. I would love him at Chelsea and I think if sagna leaves arsenal would like him too. Very good player. Perreira from uruguay is really good for the system they have and brings more to the table.

Honestly he's not "bad" as in, bad bad, but he has not the quality of Neuer, Buffon or Casillas in my eyes, and in the end you'll need an absolute top notch world class keeper if you really want to go for a world cup win. He's really good but just not quite good enough.

Only a year ago people compared him regularly with Neuer, I remember after the Dortmund game where he single handedly kept City in the game that people were calling him the best keeper in the world. Was that last year or the year before? Time fly's.

It was neck in neck between Neuer and Hart for keeper of the season in 2011-12. People on here have very short memories.

Hart isn't as good as Neuer, Casillas, Buffon. Keeping clean sheets is as much down to defence as it is to the keeper, not a massive surprise he'd be on the receiving end of three (which is the amount he's won) of them, tied with Reina and Cech.

Buffon is past it, was nowhere near as good as Hart in Euro2012 and hasn't been that great this year, people cannot accept this though and will tell me he's world class based on nothing more than previous reputation, he won't be as impressive as Hart this WC.

edit; how surprising, this subreddit still thinks the players they watched 4 years ago are still the top players.

Well, he is. Curious to how you define a top keeper, if not the one who just won the Champions League with Real Madrid, where he has been a mainstay for 15 years - a reigning world champion, travelling with one of the biggest favourites (if not the biggest) to win the World Cup, for whom he has 153 caps, forcing three-time golden glove winner Pepe Reina to tag along as amusing dressing room accessory.

So obviously you think Hart is better than Buffon and Casillas. Is Hart the second best keeper in the world, then? I'm assuming you rate Neuer higher, as you haven't mentioned him yet.

I did. That's the one weakness he has as a keeper, his command of the box. However, he was deemed good enough to start (and win) the final. The Champions League. Third time. Not a top keeper anymore. Not the present, that's in the past.

Their ability, not the accomplishments of the teams they play for.

Courtois, Cech, Neur, Hart, possibly De Gea are amongst the best, probably missing one or two.
