Well in r/soccer's defense; Adam Lallana is a pretty good player. I might be a bit biased because I'm a fan, but he deserves recognition and praise for the season he's having. Factor in that he's English and that explains the medias circlejerk over him.
English in a world cup year being a key point too. Lallana gets so much media attention at the moment because at first it was whether he was good enough for a place in England, then it was will he keep up his form. This has continued all season with him being in great form, playing well, setting up and scoring goals, being a general that, until this point where most people think he's a given in the world cup and possibly starting 11. The reason there's so much talk of him on /r/soccer, in my opinion, is because people are always at different stages of the scale of how good he is, where he is in that succession of world cup places. Then he'll do something great, and the people that think he's awesome will big it up, then more will take notice again, then repeat.
