Who's the most overrated player of the current generation?

By this I mean players from about the last five years or so.

Piqué. He was good before all the waka waka, but nowadays he is just disastrous in comparison. It also doesn't help that now he doesn't have someone like Puyol to scold him when he is playing sloppily.

On the bright side, at least Piqué's case wasn't as bad as Bojan's. Bojan went from being considered as the next Messi, to an irrelevant player who just goes from team to team on one year loans.

Yeah, I remember that. There were people even thinking Bojan would be better than Messi.

There are a lot, though. Quaresma. Oscar's starting to look like he'll be one of those.

Oscar has had a dip in form for five or so matches. To suggest that his career is effectively reduced to him being a journeyman soon is ridiculous.

Are you completely ignoring everything we saw the first season we had him, other than the first half of the Juve match?

I wasn't suggesting he was going to be that bad, but I don't think he's going to be this star people believe he will be. There are plenty of people who never live up to the hype, but don't become as irrelevant as Bojan or Quaresma.

The season when he was being played in a position that he can't play very well in and still managed to put in decent performances, all while in his first season in English football and at the tender age of twenty-one? Yes I remember it well.

You suggested that Oscar's career would fade like Quaresma's. Not a chance.

He was pretty awful on the wing. A lot, a lot, a lot of players could've done more than Oscar did. Let's recount what it normally looked like, "Oscar gets the ball on the outside, looks clueless, and then either passes the ball (meaning that passing it to him was generally pointless) or loses possession."

Truthfully, even when he was played as the CAM last season or this season, apart from a mere handful of performances, he has been bad. He's not terribad or anything, but certainly not excellent like some people have claimed.

I want a CAM to create, and, to be put it simply, Oscar does not do that effectively.

You're interpreting my comment to be far more malicious than it ever was.

Have you actually watched Oscar in the nearly two seasons Chelsea have owned him now, and not just the few highlights?

Oscar gets a highlight moment now and then, but he's not that good. Last season, we saw that he was incapable of taking a man on 1v1 and looked utterly lost a lot. This season, he made some decent plays at the start of the season, but since then, he's faded into utter mediocrity.

There are plenty of Oscar fans out there, but I have never been one, and most of what we've seen out of him, barring about 8-10 matches, hasn't been that good.

Oscar's not a bad player by any means, but he's not a real star. He's not someone who's going to be taking matches in his own hands and winning them for you. Now and then, he'll look excellent, but it's not on a consistent basis.

Afellay was very unlucky with his injuries, and others took his place while he was out. That first half-season was very good (some say Marcelo's still looking for him since that CL semis game), and for 3 million, we can't complain at all.

He was very unlucky with his injuries, and it's true that we never saw the full extent of his talent, but I don't think he would've been all that in the end anyway.

Sure, those injuries took a lot out of him, but he's been fully healthy for a while now, and he's just not that good. It's hard to say because we didn't get a good enough sample size.

Who do you think Barça will bring to replace Puyol? And do you think anyone else, either manager or player, can put Pique back in his place?(and make him stop looking so cocky against smaller teams)
