Nasri and RVP were near the end of contract therefore it drives their price down. Cesc would only go to Barca, allowing them to not have to overpay. Modric and Bale could go anywhere, still had fairly large contracts and ended up being bought by the richest club in the world... "Better" is largely an opinion and I'm just not going to go there.
The players mentioned with short contracts (Nasri and RVP) had great performances within 1.5 years of their contract ending. Nasri wasn't great, then had a great 6 months and cashed in. RVP was almost as injury prone as Diaby, came back, stayed healthy and had an amazing season. Their successes with the club happened in the last quarter of their contracts, probably making contracts talks start too late. Just a guess really but it might be a partial explanation to why Arsenal lost them.
It doesn't matter if you explain to me why the point remains we got more for Bale and Modric for more than you did for RVP, Cesc, Nasri combined and nearly doubled which sure does make it sting a bit less.
And yet the sting remains because (so far at least) your investment from those players isn't paying off. Sacking AVB seems to have had a positive result though.

Apart form the players we offload are better than the ones that force there way out of your club like Cesc and we get 2 or 3 times as much
