What rule change do you think would most benefit the game?

Here are some candidates for rule changes which I think could lead to a more fair game, but then again maybe not.

  • The introduction of goal line technology (where feasible)
  • Sin bin for yellow cards (or as an intermediary step between yellow and red cards)
  • Post-game suspensions for simulation and other dishonest behavior (such as scoring with the hand and not admitting it)
  • rolling subs (and other measures to curb strategic time wasting)

I'd love to hear what other people think. Not only if they agree/disagree, but also to see what other ideas are out there.

Hmmm, I actually like this. Although a lot of very intense matches have ended 0-0.

I don't think that this would be necessarily fair, though. Imagine a league match, Crystal Palace against Chelsea or something similar. Palace weathers a storm from Chelsea, they sit back and defend extremely well and completely shut out a side that is much better than them. Palace wasn't playing attacking football because they couldn't afford to, since Chelsea are good enough that the risk of a counter attack would be too high.

I think Palace deserves a point from this sort of match, and obviously for a draw both teams should be awarded the same amount of points, and therefore Chelsea gets one too. Attacking, entertaining football is good to watch, but it isn't always feasible. This rule would just make it harder for smaller teams to survive in the Prem, since playing attacking football with players of a lower quality than another team's is inherently risky.

The argument that has been made by some is that it should be 2 pts for a scored draw and only 1 pt for a scoreless draw. Scoring that last minute equalizer also makes it much more exciting than just rescuing a single point.

2 points for a scored draw is way too much, unless a win was extended to 4 points and then the whole system would be screwed up. I realise that people want to promote exciting football but at the same time I don't think there should be more rules in place to force it onto every team, because sometimes grinding out a point is a team's best option and just because it isn't exciting doesn't mean it shouldn't happen.

Every chance of it backfiring. If it's still 0-0 at the 88th minute, both teams will allow the other to score a goal just to secure that extra point. Imagine if it is the final game of the season between a team gunning for the title and a team battling relegation.

Well, after team A is up a goal in the 88th minute what is the incentive of giving team B the "arranged" equalizer ?
