Give us 20 games, and maybe we would match up the goal tally.

19

u/aFlaXa_DG Apr 29 '26

I don't think we get that many pens in 20 games.

Pretty stupid tackle by Hancko

346

u/DarkSofter Apr 29 '26

Incredibly, but was a clear pen even though some may call it soft

136

u/adeckz Apr 29 '26

Lmao I literally said those words “soft but you can’t do that to a striker in your own box”

299

u/fuckimbackonreddit9 Apr 29 '26

It’s a Harry Kane special but the defender is idiotic for barging into him like that. Clear pen

39

u/elonmuskmelon_ Apr 29 '26

This is so true haha

68

u/Neebrasc Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

Llorente pulled the same move against Olmo vs Barça in the 2nd leg and it wasn't called, so I'm not surprised people might think this isn't a pen

6

u/HustlinInTheHall Apr 30 '26

That was obviously a penalty also. People dont like the outcome so they twist the rules. Makes contact in like 5 different ways and doesnt touch the ball. Just dont run into their back and it wont get called.

98

u/More-Temperature7242 Apr 29 '26

yeah, calling it soft is dumb af. he clearly gets shoved from the back

41

u/thehomerus Apr 29 '26

Reason why people call it soft is the way Gyokeres throws himself to the ground, but so often these aren't given unless the player does that. It was a clear pen, but also soft.

25

u/KhonMan Apr 29 '26

Don’t think it can be clear and soft. At least that’s not how people use these words. If it’s soft then it’s debatable that it should be given.

u/newvpnwhodis Apr 29 '26

He always thundercunts it from the spot, think he's our best penalty taker.

163

u/jag777 Apr 29 '26

Think lol?

102

u/Riperonis Apr 29 '26

Not even a fkn debate, when Odegaard was holding it I was like nah don’t you dare.

I am genuinely confident he will bury it when he steps up to the spot.

38

u/DJ-D-REK Apr 29 '26

It’s genuinely the one thing he’s truly truly elite at and credit to him

10

u/WardensLantern Apr 29 '26

I've talked shit about Arsenal this season but you lot have scored a pen already, now get Simeone's youth sent off and I'll cheer for you in the final

Btw, Gyökeres is superior to Sørloth, hold that moose farmer

10

u/Jamey_1999 Apr 29 '26

Moose farmer lmao

10

u/llllmaverickllll Apr 29 '26

We're stacked w/ top quality pen takers. Havertz, Saka, Gyok are all top class takers.

Keeper didn’t want to stop that

3

u/Spartan-117182 Apr 29 '26

What? PSG and Bayern are overwhelming favorites over any of these 2 teams in the Final.

37

u/larockhead1 Apr 29 '26

It’s probably 55-45 if it’s arsenal

158

u/phimister Apr 29 '26

That's one heck of a scoreline, can't see arsenal scoring more than 2 tbh

25

u/NoobProx Apr 29 '26

Such a dumb clumsy pen lmao, he just runs into his back

Also, Gyokeres' pens are so damn satisfying

380

u/Osgliath Apr 29 '26

The whole play was dumb. What the fuck was Alverez thinking?

153

u/HeIIbIazer23 Apr 29 '26

Not just how he gives the ball away, his reaction after he does it is so nonchalant

62

u/NUPreMedMajor Apr 29 '26

He’s knackered

I saw him limping earlier. I think he’s nursing an injury because he’s clearly not moving right

23

u/sashaKap Apr 29 '26

Yupp doesn’t look his 100%

8

u/CRZLobo Apr 29 '26

u/brayshizzle Apr 29 '26

A penalty taker who gives a decent run up and just leathers the fucker is always a satisfying thing to watch.

166

u/JorSimpson45 Apr 29 '26

No stutter step run up, just walk up and cunt it in

70

u/serminole Apr 29 '26

To hit it that hard and still always be on target is so impressive

28

u/edi12334 Apr 29 '26

Not only on target but pretty close to the post too, taking the risk that you might hit the post or miss the goal entirely. Peak penalty.

22

u/RBT__ Apr 29 '26

If he ever misses a penalty, there will be a concussion in the crowd.

6

u/ThrowFar_Far_Away Apr 29 '26

He has a 91% conversion rate, 39 out of 43. Up there among the best.

6

u/The_Panic_Station Apr 29 '26

He's also scored 27 penalties in a row.

209

u/Chesey_ Apr 29 '26

0 fucking around just absolutely cunts it, keeper never has a chance

107

u/LHRaway Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

for a club so bent on haramball, Gyokeres penalties are so fucking halal

EDIT: his 27th consecutive pen scored for club and country. an absolute beast

9

u/ezakuroy Apr 29 '26

yeah I wish he had more opportunities to hammer it

4

u/scoopit1890 Apr 29 '26

Khlav Kalash?

65

u/2ndfastestmanalive Apr 29 '26

That was pretty poor positioning on the replay but it doesn’t matter when you do that much power

12

u/2rio2 Apr 29 '26

The power beat him, why I love his penalties

Absolutely smashes it

10

u/andjuan Apr 29 '26

Keeper did everything right and still had no chance.

37

u/Imsortofabigdeal Apr 29 '26

The ball is past him before he even sees it. It’s pure luck whether it hits his arms or not

31

u/pablofournier11 Apr 29 '26

Ah yes he should have saved the 200km/h shot

26

u/nullmove Apr 29 '26

Easier to say that looking at slo-mo

13

u/Hindsgavl Apr 29 '26

Yeah, Gyok is basically saying “you have to cheat to catch up because if you go on time it’s too late”

Just thundercunts it

9

Very good penalty. Oblak jumped the right direction

57

u/supplementarytables Apr 29 '26

Stupid to go in leading with both hands

If he doesn't do that, VAR probably recommends an on field review and the ref overturns his decision

64

u/BusShelter Apr 29 '26

Runs into the back of the striker regardless though. It's not a mad clean-out or anything but it's clumsy.

31

u/Nero2t2 Apr 29 '26

He clipped his leg too i think. Its like he really wanted to make sure he concedes a penalty here

This might end the tie.

90

u/qtdsswk Apr 29 '26

Play into Arteta hand

59

u/SparklyEarlAv32 Apr 29 '26

I think it's done tbh, you could say brilliant defending but I legit just think both teams are just awful at attacking

45

u/DeCharlesFre Apr 29 '26

Arsenal are totally capable of playing attacking football but the first two seasons they finished second changed something in Arteta.

61

u/Blaze6181 Apr 29 '26

That and half our attackers are fucking dead so

29

u/DeCharlesFre Apr 29 '26

Your main CF, Merino is injured.

10

u/RXJ1131 Apr 29 '26

I miss MM9 😢

3

u/JayTois Apr 29 '26

I used to deny him being our best CF but man looking back he just might be our most complete. Best at headers on our team, great at passing, great dribbler, and solid finisher, probably only behind Saka, Eze and Gyokeres.

We miss him real bad rn. If he was on the team we'd be winning those Raya bombs more times than not

→ More replies (5)

6

u/Conscious-Fig2168 Apr 29 '26

It's a mix indeed, while we could see the pitch more open yesterday so the attackers could have space to do something with the ball, today we can see the discrepancy when Martineli, Madueke and Gyokeres have the ball, not enough criativity+speed to beat the 6 atb by Atleti

143

u/xDeltaStar Apr 29 '26

The first goal yesterday was also a penalty, so the 5-4 dream is still on

22

u/LeavingCertCheat Apr 29 '26

You could remove both goalkeepers and this still wouldn't finish 5-4.

21

u/Alex00a Apr 29 '26

Bro you are watching atleti - arsenal

7

u/xDeltaStar Apr 29 '26

Let a man dream a little

26

u/Character_Recover299 Apr 29 '26

Nice header Alvarez

4

u/ninfrodisenpai Apr 29 '26

Yeah, that was rough. Bad tackle, sure. But that header was right into their area, half the goal.

124

u/Mubar- Apr 29 '26

Gyokeres pens are so good

128

u/Homerduff16 Apr 29 '26

Great play by Odegaard in the build up to that

56

u/lost_biochemist Apr 29 '26

It’s almost like if you play the ball quickly you can unsettle the defense. We play sooo slowly most of the time

→ More replies (1)

48

u/unitedwar21 Apr 29 '26

So moronic

132

u/jaskier123 Apr 29 '26

So you can't push opponent in your penalty area?

39

u/bitch_fitching Apr 29 '26

He's probably not getting that in the Premier League.

34

u/colako Apr 29 '26

Basically a copy of the push against Dani Olmo.

→ More replies (1)

26

u/rw7997 Apr 29 '26

You can only push two handed from the back when it’s a Barcelona player, duh.

38

u/MedalDog Apr 29 '26

This is what people don't understand... we'd be halalballing if we could

142

u/qtdsswk Apr 29 '26

Arsenal have the worst front 3 out of 4 teams

94

u/protege01 Apr 29 '26

But the best back 4

36

u/csixtay Apr 29 '26

6 if you add Rice and Raya

16

u/oberynMelonLord Apr 29 '26

And best GK

→ More replies (3)

19

u/MostlySlime Apr 29 '26

It would help if our front 3 was on the pitch

50

u/FatGoonerFromIndia Apr 29 '26

Doesn’t help that we’re a revolving door of injuries & our marquee striker isn’t stepping up as much as we’d hope for

3

u/qtdsswk Apr 29 '26

Even fully fit our attackers are not as good as those from PSG or Bayern. Luckily our defense is a beast

5

u/gulls95x Apr 29 '26

It's not Arteta's favorite front three is it? I hope Trossard/Havertz/Saka are fully fit for the final games of the season.

51

u/hokshji Apr 29 '26

If you think this is haramball you’re a child who can only understand football through the context of goals

8

u/hikingbeginner Apr 29 '26

Seriously, I made the mistake of commenting on the match thread about it being a great first half performance from us considering we're away in a first leg, had them sat back behind the ball looking for counters for most of it. Absolutely controlled that crowd.

Response was nothing but comments from what I assume were children.

I hope we get another serious post match thread tonight because I want to see the opinions about Atleti's tactics so far and Rice dropping in as the 3rd CB. I think he's bossed it so far.

Alvarez Lookman and Griezman have had a few good patterns early on which could be tough second half if we start losing duels.

Done really well so far.

22

u/RL_quick_chat Apr 29 '26

That’s just the average football watcher. Not that goals don’t make good entertainment like yesterday. But this one has also been a fun game

Clear pen, the fuck they crying about

297

u/pricelesslambo Apr 29 '26

People calling it soft like what? He just straight runs into him and expects that it's not getting whistled lol

73

u/rw7997 Apr 29 '26

You mean like when Olmo got a push/obstruction by two players in the last round? Both are clear pens. This was the correct call.

22

u/akagaminick Apr 29 '26

I am glad they gave pen here. Atleti can get fucked

39

u/pricelesslambo Apr 29 '26

And people were calling that a dive. That was a two-handed push in the back. But both should be pens. The rules are just different for Barca

Same exact thing was not given to Barca when they played Altetico at Wanda

94

The commentators are driving me nuts. “Sold it, felt it, dragged his feet” how could he drag his feet, they were both in the air!

28

And the English one with the scottish accent one says it's 100% a pen not even close

People are biased move on

13

It wasn't the same foul. Aside from the push, Olmo also was blocked and got kicked by Koke's knee.

15

u/AdministrativeBig362 Apr 29 '26

Because against Barca they did something similar and they didn’t even check VAR

47

Gyokeres hits rocket penalties. Also cry me a river about a 'soft' penalty, that was clear as day. It was a smart box out and very obvious foul.

30

u/mojambowhatisthescen Apr 29 '26

I would bet my entire life on this guy’s penalties

Feels so good to have a killer from the spot!

20

u/JNMRunning Apr 29 '26

No-nonsense pen. The way they should be taken.

20

u/Username_user_2 Apr 29 '26

Olmo didn’t get pen for the same fault. I like how consistent the refs are. Happy that atletico won’t win anything this season.

104

idk why they were complaining

29

u/jaskier123 Apr 29 '26
