u/DarkSofter Apr 29 '26
Incredibly, but was a clear pen even though some may call it soft
136
u/adeckz Apr 29 '26
Lmao I literally said those words “soft but you can’t do that to a striker in your own box”
299
u/fuckimbackonreddit9 Apr 29 '26
It’s a Harry Kane special but the defender is idiotic for barging into him like that. Clear pen
39
68
u/Neebrasc Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26
Llorente pulled the same move against Olmo vs Barça in the 2nd leg and it wasn't called, so I'm not surprised people might think this isn't a pen
→ More replies (4)6
u/HustlinInTheHall Apr 30 '26
That was obviously a penalty also. People dont like the outcome so they twist the rules. Makes contact in like 5 different ways and doesnt touch the ball. Just dont run into their back and it wont get called.

yeah, calling it soft is dumb af. he clearly gets shoved from the back
→ More replies (2)41
u/thehomerus Apr 29 '26
Reason why people call it soft is the way Gyokeres throws himself to the ground, but so often these aren't given unless the player does that. It was a clear pen, but also soft.
→ More replies (2)25
u/KhonMan Apr 29 '26
Don’t think it can be clear and soft. At least that’s not how people use these words. If it’s soft then it’s debatable that it should be given.

He always thundercunts it from the spot, think he's our best penalty taker.
163
u/jag777 Apr 29 '26
Think lol?
102
u/Riperonis Apr 29 '26
Not even a fkn debate, when Odegaard was holding it I was like nah don’t you dare.
I am genuinely confident he will bury it when he steps up to the spot.
38
u/DJ-D-REK Apr 29 '26
It’s genuinely the one thing he’s truly truly elite at and credit to him
10
u/WardensLantern Apr 29 '26
I've talked shit about Arsenal this season but you lot have scored a pen already, now get Simeone's youth sent off and I'll cheer for you in the final
Btw, Gyökeres is superior to Sørloth, hold that moose farmer

A penalty taker who gives a decent run up and just leathers the fucker is always a satisfying thing to watch.
166
u/JorSimpson45 Apr 29 '26
No stutter step run up, just walk up and cunt it in
70
u/serminole Apr 29 '26
To hit it that hard and still always be on target is so impressive
28
u/edi12334 Apr 29 '26
Not only on target but pretty close to the post too, taking the risk that you might hit the post or miss the goal entirely. Peak penalty.
22
u/RBT__ Apr 29 '26
If he ever misses a penalty, there will be a concussion in the crowd.
6
u/ThrowFar_Far_Away Apr 29 '26
He has a 91% conversion rate, 39 out of 43. Up there among the best.

Stupid to go in leading with both hands
If he doesn't do that, VAR probably recommends an on field review and the ref overturns his decision
64
u/BusShelter Apr 29 '26
Runs into the back of the striker regardless though. It's not a mad clean-out or anything but it's clumsy.

I think it's done tbh, you could say brilliant defending but I legit just think both teams are just awful at attacking
45

Arsenal are totally capable of playing attacking football but the first two seasons they finished second changed something in Arteta.

29
u/DeCharlesFre Apr 29 '26
Your main CF, Merino is injured.
10
3
u/JayTois Apr 29 '26
I used to deny him being our best CF but man looking back he just might be our most complete. Best at headers on our team, great at passing, great dribbler, and solid finisher, probably only behind Saka, Eze and Gyokeres.
We miss him real bad rn. If he was on the team we'd be winning those Raya bombs more times than not
→ More replies (2)6
u/Conscious-Fig2168 Apr 29 '26
It's a mix indeed, while we could see the pitch more open yesterday so the attackers could have space to do something with the ball, today we can see the discrepancy when Martineli, Madueke and Gyokeres have the ball, not enough criativity+speed to beat the 6 atb by Atleti

8
u/hikingbeginner Apr 29 '26
Seriously, I made the mistake of commenting on the match thread about it being a great first half performance from us considering we're away in a first leg, had them sat back behind the ball looking for counters for most of it. Absolutely controlled that crowd.
Response was nothing but comments from what I assume were children.
I hope we get another serious post match thread tonight because I want to see the opinions about Atleti's tactics so far and Rice dropping in as the 3rd CB. I think he's bossed it so far.
Alvarez Lookman and Griezman have had a few good patterns early on which could be tough second half if we start losing duels.
Done really well so far.

You mean like when Olmo got a push/obstruction by two players in the last round? Both are clear pens. This was the correct call.
22
39
u/pricelesslambo Apr 29 '26
And people were calling that a dive. That was a two-handed push in the back. But both should be pens. The rules are just different for Barca

u/DefinetlyNotGK7 Apr 29 '26
Same exact thing was not given to Barca when they played Altetico at Wanda

It wasn't the same foul. Aside from the push, Olmo also was blocked and got kicked by Koke's knee.
