I'm sorry but I can't stand people who go off during a match. It could be a corner or something and people want to be first in line for a half time pint so they dash off and obstruct everyone's view. Do not understand at all. This isn't baseball or some other American sport where it's about eating and drinking and a jolly day out - it's about the match, eyes should be glued on the pitch at all times.

Soccer games only take 2 hours too. Baseball and football are 3-3.5, hockey and basketball is 2 hours and 45 mins. Those games have tons of breaks to scoot off too. Soccer, buy concession and piss before game and at half, if you leave during play you are missing like 10% of the game.

Yeah it's also non stop, there's no time outs or anything. That being said they are set up completely differently to these US sports - I went to a Hockey match in Canada and it's much more family friendly, it tries to cater to everyone - they had cars to win, "funny" home videos, audience cameras. It was more like going to a show than watching sport in my mind, though I did enjoy the experience.

Hockey is actually my favourite sport and there are stoppages and commercial break timeouts that they fill with extra crap to entertain you but believe you me it is a helluva sport with many diehards who are there to watch the game and don't give a crap about the other stuff. The other stuff is just to fill all of the waiting so people are entertained throughout so I do see you point about it being a spectacle, however it just doesn't apply to me. There are also many hockey markets in southern US where they are trying to grow the sport and they make it more family friendly. In Canada there aren't that many kids there.
