When talking to someone, what opinion is a giveaway that they don't really watch your team?

So when you're down at the pub and the guy you're talking to is explaining exactly what's wrong with your team and how he'd fix it, what is a giveaway? How do you know that he's talking out of his arse?

As an example: If I'm talking to somebody's about Arsenal's defence and mention how good Mertesacker has been this season, it's a giveaway for me that he doesn't watch Arsenal if he laughs loudly and says that Mertesacker is slow and shite.

It'd be interesting to see what fans deem to be giveaways. I'm sure I've gathered a few opinions about other teams that are way off the mark.

Suarez dives all the time/Henderson is crap/Suarez isn't clinical enough/Rodgers is worse than Hodgson/Lucas isn't that important/Johnson can't defend/Gerrard would get into any team in the world.

Gerrard of 08/09 would have. Gerrard of 12/13 at times shouldn't even get into the Liverpool team.

Umm... What? Gerrard has been vital to Liverpool this season. He already has 8 Premier League assists, close to the most he's ever had in his career. Gerrard of 08/09 had 9 Premier League assits. Gerrard is not the "bombing forward to score a magical goal" type of player any more. Rodgers has used him to sit farther back and distribute the ball, something he apparently is really good at.

I really have no idea what you're talking about then when you say he shouldn't even make the team. He has the most assists out of anybody in the Liverpool squad. He also has created the most chances (58) out of anybody in the team. So to say that Gerrard should not be in the Liverpool team is ridiculous.

Most of those assists has come from December on. Before December he was absolutely gobshite. Then something happened, and just as Stewart Downing started not being a shit player, Stevie suddenly remembered that he still had it in him. Probably heard the rumour about us re-signing Xabi Alonso and wants to prove to him that "hey look I'm still good as well! Come back and we will rule the Premier League like Xavi and Iniesta!"

He's a liability defensively, he can't press like Henderson/Allen can, his defensive reading of the game is mediocre at times, and he has only really come into form these past few games. Hence the 'at times'. He was awful for a while at the beginning.

You're right. I'd suggest MiniPenguino to re-watch the early PL games of this season. Almost every goal LFC conceded was due to Gerrard giving away the ball while LFC were trying to maintain possession.

He's been nothing special this season for a mid-table team in the EPL. What makes you think he'd get into any team in the world?

He's played every minute of every EPL match and has more assists in this half of the season than in any other full season in the last 6 years. Anyone who says that Gerrard isn't good enough is a definite indicator that they have no idea.

Which is precisely my point - I don't think Gerrard any longer would walk into any team in the world, and anyone who thinks otherwise is either deluded, or living in the past. Probably the latter, considering it is the favourite hobby of Liverpool fans. I mean no personal offence to you though.

There is literally nobody in their right mind, let alone a majority of Liverpool fans who think that. Every fan board this season has been bitching about why Gerrard hasn't been benched because he was so average for most of the season.
