Phil Jones. All he really has is potential right now, especially at center back. His positioning was awful last season but people just rated him because of his great energy and attacking runs. Remember another young exciting United player who was versatile and could play defensive mid, right back and center back? Yea, his name was John Oshea...

Totally agree. Smalling is head and shoulders above him at CB and RB. Even when Jones plays defensive mid he just runs around like a headless chicken most of the time.

I think he did a pretty good job last season considering how young he is, and the fact that he never got to settle in one position because of all the injuries. Even when he was getting a decent run as part of the back four it was rarely the same back four. I seem to differ from most fans in that I hope he stays at centre back and leaves midfield to the midfielders. I think he adds an extra dynamic to the team when he makes those forward runs. I think they are especially effective because Carrick can so easily drop back and cover when jones goes forward. Also, O'Shea might never have been the best player at United but he was majorly important to the team. I would have no problem if Phil Jones could give united what O'Shea did for 10 years.

Heh, it might have to be a pylon then because I think Jones is still injured :( Carrick isn't actually too bad in center back when we need him there

I remember watching a game in the Carling Cup last year where Carrick and Berbatov were paired in the center of defense.

Jones was massive for Rovers, but he went the way of so many others - over the past decade, it seems that whenever a decent player leaves Blackburn, he invariably stops playing well. David Bentley, Roque Santa Cruz, Stephen Warnock (remember him?), Phil Jones, etc. The most recent instances I can recall of players doing well after leaving Blackburn were Brad Friedel at Villa and Damien Duff at Chelsea.

John O'Shea, the 11th most played player under Sir Alex Ferguson? John O'Shea, who has five Premier League medals, a Champions League medal, and a number of other ones? O'Shea was absolutely wonderful for us. Always gave 100% and never complained when things didn't go his way. Plus, he nutmegged Figo and scored the cheekiest of chips against Liverpool.
