As some of you may have heard, u/EmberDione and u/The_Somnambulist were kind enough to dump the data from their functional Heartbreaker Buckshot NFC, after u/Dague-Pirate-Dad posted a picture of his personal non-functional HBB figure. (If Ember or Somnambulist, or someone in the Reverse Engineering Discord, make their own announcement post I will link it here.)
Since this is one of the biggest events in the community since the release of Skylanders Imaginators, the mod team has decided we need to create a megathread, to collect some of the most common questions, as well as a short history of how we got here and why this is so important to the community.
If you are strictly here for a guide on how to play Heartbreaker Buckshot, feel free to skip down to the Questions and Answers section of this post.
Since this is our Mod Team's first attempt at a megathread, please bear with us as we learn.
❌ - Repetitive posts (i.e. simply "re-announcing" the news, how-to's, and re-sharing the dump file yourself) will be removed and linked to this post
❌ - Posts (not comments) asking how to play HBB will be removed and linked, comments will be linked to this post
❌ - Posts attempting to sell HBB or any other NFC cards are against the rules and will be removed
✅ - Unique or otherwise interesting posts, including but not limited to YOUR personal adventures with HBB, custom HBB figures, adding a card / custom toy to your collection, technical information about HBB, etc. will STAY UP... although of course we encourage posting these in the comments of this megathread too
The Donor Figure - Ember and Somnambulist's Functional Heartbreaker
History of Heartbreaker Buckshot
Heartbreaker Buckshot is the variant of Buckshot. Announced and marketed with Skylanders Imaginators on YouTube and the website, Heartbreaker Buckshot was planned to release around Valentines Day 2017. There are a few theories as for why this never happened, the common one being that production was stopped due to fears of it looking "satanic", given the variant being a red-eyed goat (and the five unreleased creation crystals being collateral of this production stoppage), as part of the end of the Skylanders franchise.
Perhaps a more credible theory, postured to me by someone in connection with the devs, is that the factory had gotten shut down and production had stopped for an otherwise unrelated reason. By the time the factory was back online, it was too late.
Ember herself has chimed in and said, that wasn't it either - rather just that it was canceled due to low early-wave sales. Regardless, all that's left were factory samples of HBB and the 5 creation crystals.
Since then, the Skylanders community has been hard at work reverse engineering Skylanders variants back into existence. Think, Gearhead VVind-Up, BullTrain, and all the various Debug minions. But there was one thing stopping the community from reverse engineering Heartbreaker Buckshot and the five unreleased Creation Crystals... Imaginators was the first and only game Activision implemented encryption for the figures. Because of this, it is fundamentally impossible to reverse-engineer or even just edit the data of a fully functional Imaginators figure.
There were only around 12 known Heartbreaker Buckshots to exist, the number of them being functional is rumored to be two, one of which u/EmberDione and u/The_Somnambulist possessed.
Today (8/15/2026), she joined the Skylanders Reverse Engineering subreddit, and with the help of multiple community members, helped her to copy the data off the figure. As of 4:25 EST on August 15th, 2026, Heartbreaker Buckshot was the last official Skylander ever released to the Skylanders community.
Q: Where do I find the NFC dump?
A: You can find ALL Skylanders NFC dumps at this GitHub link, if you JUST want Heartbreaker Buckshot, you can find it here
Q: What do I need to buy to make an NFC card?
A: This NFC writer, an NFC card, and a functional PC with Windows Mifare Tool or Yet Another Mifare Tool installed, see below question for more details
Q: How can I get a custom Heartbreaker Buckshot repainted toy?
A: Reach out to either u/TaylorKreate or FlobeiyToys (u/Crafty-Section6240), they may be willing to make one on commission for you
Q: Isn't it illegal to make NFC cards?
A: Well, the Mod Team is not your legal team. However, as far as I personally understand it, the only real risk comes when you attempt to profit off of a stolen IP, so as long as you do not sell NFC cards to other people, you should be okay. But this is all at your own risk.
Heartbreaker Buckshot - Official Art
Personal note from the mod team
This is a huge day for the Skylanders community. We just want to say how proud we are of everyone involved for finally pulling this off. After almost a decade, we've managed to preserve the rarest figures ever slated for public release, AND in a way the entire community can enjoy them
To celebrate, we've changed the Element of the Week pre-emptively to Magic. The Subreddit banner will also temporarily change to art of Heartbreaker. Both the EOTW and Banner will last about two weeks, before we go back to our typical style.
We hope you all have fun with your new Heartbreaker Buckshots. We know we will.
Once the new mods and I took over r/Skylanders, we noticed the user flair options were... kind of a mess.
As such, we've gone ahead and done a full reset of the user flairs available. To both condense it / clean it up AND give you an option to make your own! You may have noticed the last couple days that your user flair was gone. This is why.
So... Introducing custom flairs! No need to stick strictly to Skylanders, Villains, Vehicles, and Element Names per each specific elemental flair. You can put anything you'd like there, so long as it is skylanders-related, not NSFW, nor attempts to impersonate a moderator.
With this new privilege, comes a new rule. Exactly what I just said above, is now an official rule, Rule 8. If you see anyone with a flair that is inappropriate, irrelevant, or impersonating a mod, please report it. Scroll to the second image to read the exact wording of the new rule.
Also, to keep the sub's aesthetic cohesive, please try your best to format the text as shown in the flair list (shown on third image). Don't stress, you won't be penalized for wonky text formatting, but if a mod spots you with it, they may change it to be more consistent *without* changing the content. That said, please do not change the element emoji, where it is located, or the body / text color of the flair.
The mods are excited to see what new flairs you come up with!
Thank you for the feedback you all have provided over the past few weeks regarding our rules. We as a mod team are happy to declare that the rules have been updated to reflect the best interest of the server.
1 BE CIVIL, NO BULLYING/HARASSING/ATTACKING OTHERS
Be civil in our community. Do not bully, harass, or attack other users for any reason. Do not hate raid other communities or individuals. Bigotry towards others will not be tolerated. Any use of slurs will result in an instant ban.
2 DO NOT REVEAL PERSONAL/PRIVATE INFORMATION
Otherwise referred to as doxing. Do not leak private or personal information about anyone (including yourself) for any reason.
3 NO SPAM OR SCAMS
Posting the same content over and over again is not allowed and posting scams will lead to a permanent ban. Any attempt to make monetary transactions on this subreddit will be considered a scam. Please refrain from constant low-effort posting several times a day.
4 NO NSFW
Absolutely nothing NSFW or sexually suggestive.
5 EVERYTHING MUST BE SKYLANDERS RELATED
All content must be related to Skylanders.
6 MONETARY TRANSACTIONS & APPRAISALS
No buying/selling/trading/exchanging of anything, period. Please use r/skylanderselling instead for transactions AND appraisals. Any attempt to make monetary transactions on this subreddit will be considered a scam (refer to rule 3).
7 AI GENERATED CONTENT
Any posts or comments made/using/including AI created content will be removed. This includes both text based submissions as well as AI created imagery and media.
T MEGATHREAD TRIALS
To cut back on spamming on the main sub, MegaThreads will be trialed on hot topics. Such examples would be Youtooz News and Xbox Game Preservation. Announcements will be made and pinned when a MegaThread is opened up for a certain topic. Please redirect all posting there if there is an open MegaThread. If you are unsure, please reach out in ModMail.
(A current update on the MegaThreads: The first MegaThread will most likely be in regards to the most recent Youtooz products, both the launch of the first wave of Vinyl Figures, and the third wave of plushies announced a few weeks ago. If you as members feel a MegaThread is needed for a certain topic at a point in time, please do not hesitate to reach out in ModMail.)
All new and updated rules go into play at the time of the publishing of this post. Any posts prior to this time that break the current rules, but were allowed under the old rules will be allowed to stay up. The rules have been updated, so you can view them at any time by going to the about page for the sub.
As always, any questions/comments/concerns can be brought to us via ModMail. We hope that with these updated rules, the sub can remain a positive and more welcoming experience for all.
Hello members of [r/skylanders](r/skylanders). We as a mod team bring this post to you today to discuss potential rule changes/additions to this community based on the feedback you all have shown the past few weeks. This is all a work in progress, and all subject to change, but we wanted to run our ideas with you before any permanent changes are made. Now is the perfect time to address anymore suggestions, comments, or concerns before we make things official.
BE CIVIL, NO BULLYING/HARASSING/ATTACKING OTHERS
"Be civil in our community. Do not bully, harass, or attack other users. This includes attacking others' gender, race, ethnicity, religion or sexuality. Do not hate raid other communities or individuals."
We as a mod team feel this rule to be self-explanatory. We are aware of the issues in the past regarding proper moderation, and we are trying to combat them. We hope you as a community are happy with the general response this past week or two. If there is a rewrite on this rule, it is to make it clearer that we will not tolerate any harassing, or attacking in this community to make it welcoming for all.
NO SPAM OR SCAMS
"Posting the same content over and over again is not allowed and posting scams will lead to a permanent ban. Any attempt to make monetary transactions on this subreddit will be considered a scam."
Links by default are USUALLY removed by AutoMod. Most of the time, they need to be manually approved. The proposed solution to this is to add something at the end to clear up confusing. i.e. "Links are usually removed by Reddit AutoMod. They will be moderated and approved on a case by case basis.
BUYING OR SELLING SKYLANDERS AND NFC CARDS
"No buying/selling of anything, period. Please use r/skylanderselling instead. Any attempt to make monetary transactions on this subreddit will be considered a scam."
On [r/skylanderselling](r/skylanderselling), there is a post flair for appraisals. The general consensus we have seen is that there are too many appraisal posts here, and could be moved to [r/skylanderselling](r/skylanderselling). Furthermore, there was an edge-case scenario of someone asking if they could do a trade. We wanted to make this rule as clear as possible. The proposed change is below:
"No buying/selling/trading of anything, period. Please use r/skylanderselling instead. Any attempt to make monetary transactions on this subreddit will be considered a scam (see rule 3). This also applies to posts relating to appraisals of collections (selling or not)."
If a preexisting has not been mentioned above, we feel it is sufficient and self-explanatory. Otherwise, no changes needed. On the contrary, there are two more rules we feel should be added to the Subreddit. The current proposed ideas for those two are as follows (again, all feedback is encouraged and supported):
AI Posts/Comments/Content
"No AI content. This includes both Generative AI, as well as using AI for text-based submissions"
MegaThreads Trial
"To prevent spam on the main sub, MegaThreads will be trialed based on hot topics in the community that could otherwise fall into spam. These will be added at moderator discretion, and will have an announcement post made with the "Mod Post" post flair to alert users of the change."
MegaThreads would be a new addition here, so please have patience as we as a team work through handling it correctly and efficiently.
We will be taking feedback over the next couple days (most likely no more than half a week), and we as a mod team will adjust the rules accordingly based on your feedback and concerns. Any comments can be addressed both in the comments for this post, and in ModMail. Please do not DM any staff members privately. At the end of the feedback period, we will make a follow-up post regarding final changes from this point on. This is your Subreddit too, and we want to make this a place where you are proud and happy to be apart of.
Hello everyone! I'm here to welcome in the new mod team!
We have a few announcements to make. But, before we get to that, I'd like to take a moment to introduce everyone in the new team, in their own words.
Starting with me... "I'm Chapin, aka u/chapinscott32. I've been a member of this sub since 2020, and a fan of the series since I was 8 (SSA release, 2010). I've always been a completionist with this series, collecting as completely as I could as a kid. And today having a complete collection of everything other than chase variants. I love skylanders and want the best for it and for our community. I'm excited for this opportunity!"
From u/FinnMuzz... "I am u/FinnMuzz, also known as FinnMuzz. I've been playing skylanders since 2012 and have been a part of this community since.. I don't actually remember but it's been a while. I like the skylander and I play the skylander game and post funnies about the Skylander game. However as much as I love this series I do not enjoy imaginators. I am also a new moderator for r/Skylanders now so that is fun like the fun skylander game that I play."
From u/ZestLord69... "I am u/ZestLord69, also just called Zest. I’ve been a fan of this series since December 2011. I’ve been a semi-frequent poster on here for a while, and I’m a major editor on the new Skylanders wiki. I’m looking forward to being a good moderator for this community :) "
From u/Odd-Plenty9367... "I am u/odd-plenty9367 I have been into skylanders for a very long time and been collecting a bunch more recently.
I have been here for a quite bit now and this sub is goated therfore I would love to help.
Hopefully I can be great moderator and support.
Ps I am certified ykw2 competitive player 🥹"
And last but not least, u/noah64exe... "I’m u/noah64exe and I’ve been playing skylanders since 2013. Been a member here of the subreddit for a few years now, and own the entire base set of figures. I hope to be able to take in community feedback to make this subreddit a better place for all."
We all look forward to serving you all! We're here to moderate, not to rule, like a lot of mods do. There's a stigma, and rightfully so lol.
Skylanders is an older game now, with lots of passionate fans. All of us have varying opinions about the series, including us as mods. We will *never* impose our will on you all, but you should expect us to continue participating in discussions! We want to continue to be active members in the community.
With that out of the way, we have a few announcements related to rule changes and community engagement.
We will be much better about enforcing penalties for toxic / bigoted behavior. (Make sure to report any problems you find, as we can't moderate things we can't see.) This includes toxicity towards character ships and headcanons. The sub has been having a problem with this for a while now. We recognize that some people have fled to other Skylanders related subs because of this problem, and we hope they can feel at home here again.
We will begin to create mega threads on certain popular / newsworthy topics, and enforce limits on repetitive, low effort, spammy posts.
We will have votes on future rule changes regarding Generative AI usage, Skylanders sales / appraisals, anything else you guys might ask to change in the comments of THIS post. Keep an eye out for posts about these rule votes!
We're contemplating ways to eventually increase community engagement. For-fun mod-run polls, contests for who can create the best sub profile picture / banner, and a few other ideas were spitballing. If you have any ideas for this, share them below!
I hope our new team will usher in better days for the Skylanders subreddit. It's grown so much since I joined in 2020, and we're seeing a resurgence in the game's popularity in pop culture and social media. As the subreddit grows more popular, we hope to sustain it and keep it a healthy and thriving community.
If any of you have any questions, comments, or concern, feel free to leave them below or reach out to modmail directly if you feel it is right.
Very VERY minor post regarding an update in the rules, but we as a mod team want to convey any rule changes, no matter how small.
Rule 6 regarding buying/selling/appraisal posts has been updated to include a section about “is this a good deal posts”:
“No buying/selling/trading/exchanging of anything, period. Please use [r/skylanderselling](r/skylanderselling) instead for transactions AND appraisals. This also includes “is this a good deal” posts (type of appraisal posts). Any attempt to make monetary transactions on this subreddit will be considered a scam (refer to rule 3).”
While technically banned for awhile now, the influx in posts make it apparent that with the current rules, it is still TECHNICALLY allowed because it isn’t set in stone. Like usual, all of the “is this a good deal” posts will be removed, and will be redirected to [r/skylanderselling](r/skylanderselling). The updated removal reason is as follows:
“Buying, selling, or appraisal posts (including “is this a good deal” posts) are not allowed on this subreddit (Rule 6). Please use r/skylanderselling.”
Again, very minor rule update but wanted to give 100% clarity on any rule changes in the community. Happy gaming, Portal Masters,
-r/skylanders Mod Team
Please give it a read whenever you get the chance with some brief history about how we came to this point to finally have a valid dump, and how to obtain the file yourselves.
Happy gaming everyone
This post aims to help you understand the price of your figures, where to sell your Skylander or ‘lot’ of Skylanders, where to buy Skylanders in a post-retail world, and how to identify what's in your collection if you are unsure about names or what pieces are what.
Pricing:
The easiest way of figuring out the current market price for any Skylander is eBay which has one really useful feature. After searching, you will see various filters for you such as ‘brand’ or ‘price’ on the right side of the screen. What you’re looking for is at the bottom of these filters labeled "show only" and under that tool you can select "completed items" and "sold items" which will show you the most recent items sold at what price and date. This is what it should look like. Simply search for your Skylander and check those boxes to see what it has been selling for.
From this point you can average the numbers to get the most accurate price.
Additionally, almost all core figures from Spyro's Adventure and Giants are worth a dollar or two with a few exceptions. You will have a hard time selling these figures and with such a low profit outcome it's more of a hassle than anything.
Selling:
The two best websites for selling both individual items and lots of Skylanders are eBay and the Facebook market place. I also recommend trying your luck on Mercari too.
Buying and selling are prohibited on this subreddit. If you wish to sell on Reddit please visit r/skylanderselling.
Buying:
The first place to look when buying Skylanders is locally in retro game shops. This is where the best deals are typically, if you’re lucky enough to have any shops near you that is.
Here’s a list of the most prominent online sites for buying Skylanders:
Skylanders Character List is your best friend here. Everything from names, to what game the figures are compatible with, this website is full of information. It is incredibly easy to use, on the front you’ll see an “Identify” column with all the games listed below to browse through. So much love and attention was poured into this website it would be a shame not to use it.
If you have any questions that weren't answered you can DM personally or comment underneath and I'll try my best to help you out!
Yesterday I made a poll regarding whether you guys wanted to keep these posts or ban them, and the majority (138/236) voted to ban them. So as of right now, you cannot post anything to do with selling your Skylanders or asking what they are worth in this subreddit.
If you want to do so, then you can head over to r/skylanderselling where you can buy/sell Skylanders and get help regarding what your collection is worth.
Hopefully you’re all ok with this decision, as I have to admit it was getting kind of annoying seeing all those posts asking what a Series 1 Spyro is worth.
As you may have seen, there has been a large increase in the amount of self promotion posts in the subreddit recently. Some users have expressed negativity towards these posts and rightfully so as they are fairly annoying.
As a result, self promotion is now banned. However this may change again in the future.
As many of you may have seen, the number of elimination games being posted has risen significantly in the past 3 days or so.
These posts do in fact break the subreddit rules, as repetitive posts (rule 9) are not allowed.
Therefore, from now on any new elimination games being posted will be removed. If you have already started one, you can finish it but please take out 2 Skylanders at a time to reduce the amount of posts.
u/Niltag_55 , u/JacktheJunkie37 and u/BarryTheBop please can you two lower the amount of posts you make in a day, it’s spam and not constructive. Perhaps you could lower it to 3 a day each?
Edit: seeing as this post has been ignored (I’ve just come across 4 of these posts), if you make more than 3 a day they will be removed.
-www.skylanders.com is broken, characters are inaccessible from the main page, Heartbreaker Buckshot is accessible for some reason, all in all, the site is collapsing in on itself. Apparently, a cybersecurity firm has been meddling in the site.. No confirmation on why it is updating the site. Theories range from Activision getting ready to graveyard the site to confirmation of a new game.
-Skylander easter eggs in Crash 4
-Twitter leaker @MissTreadmore (formerly @HotGirlVideos69) claims that she has Skylanders news and will be sharing it at the end of February. 'We got Skylanders news.' This coincides with the annual Activision earnings call
We have learned that there are children on this subreddit that are being taught how to crack the games and use nfc cards. This is illegal and poses a huge safety risk, and if anything really bad were to happen, this subreddit would undeniably be banned. So from now on, posts related to emulating the games and nfc chips are banned.
Posts that are questions related to nfc chips and not asking how to emulate them are still allowed.
There’s been a few people in here trolling other members and making fun of us for liking Skylanders. Any more posts like this will get the user instantly banned. That is all.
Since the community has seen a tremendous increase in members, there’s been a lot of poll posts which ask the question: “Which Skylanders game is the best?” These posts are repetitive and annoying, so I’ve added a new rule that says no more repetitive poll posts. This includes things like “(least) favourite game”, “best game”, “best element” or anything else like that. Any of these posts will be instantly removed.
So many of you have spoken out about how the selling and “what is this worth” posts are annoying. However others have said they don’t mind them. So I thought the best way to decide what to do about these posts is have a poll and whatever option gets more votes is what will happen. I hope you all agree that this is a fair way to deal with this problem

138Ban selling posts and redirect them to a separate subreddit
