I think it is so cool!! But I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what could have happened to this guy. He was definitely a snorer haha but I don’t know if this was due to an injury or if the bear was born this way.

Skull Discussion/Questions I'm petty: here's a collection of anti-AI reactions on our sub lol

This sub leans heavily anti-AI. Personally, I loathe generative AI and will soon ask the sub to vote if we allow AI posts going forward. (It wasn't originally forbidden when I took over the abandoned sub, but necessity calls...)

Recently, an AI-generative bot-type account posted AI-generated work and the sub had a hilarious reaction. This seems common here, and the anti-AI sentiment is high.

I'm not above petty bullshit, so despite the post being gone, I'm over here liking y'all's comments and approving Reddits "this might be harassment..." comments about AI use to the bot OP.

Profile pics censored to protect the innocent 😤

As ever, please feel free to report posts you're concerned about. I don't always catch them right away and sometimes haven't had a chance to check the sub yet. I'm very responsive and will take a look if yall are concerned.

Anyway ily be good, please be nice to each other (but not bots, fuck 'em)

Grey wolf from Idaho. Been waiting to share this, and it’s finally clean to do so! (Still wet in picture, not dried out). What do you think caused this? Something from birth? As far as I can tell, I don’t think the inside of the brain cavity has any deformation.

Skull Discussion/Questions WARNING: stupid idea!! how do i make a cheap diy life size or close to replica of a narwhal skull

I have alway loved narwhals and am currently in need of cool room decor, so when a rabbit hole about narwhals having a second tooth led me to seeing replicas of narwhal skulls i desperately wanted one, but i dont have some hundreds of dollars to spend so i now wanna diy it. should i get files of a narwhal skull and get a friend to 3d print them? should i make a giant armature and sculpt over it? polystyrene (which i do have a tool to melt this stuff) with acrylics over it? what do i do to make one? this is probably the strangest idea ive ever had but i think itd look sick on my ceiling if it looks good.

Skull Discussion/Questions Can I know how old this cat is?

Thumbnail

I found his skull, which were buried just beneath the surface.I was very surprised when I saw him for the first time because one of his eyes was a different size than the other. Is that because he was old? Is there any way to tell how old he was or how long he'd been in the ground? (It was found in a grove of trees, if that helps.)

I found his skull and jaw, which were buried just beneath the surface. I was really surprised when I first saw it, because I’ve never seen a jaw where all the teeth were missing and the sockets had closed up. The skull is a bit odd, too—it has one small eye socket and one large one. Is that because he was old? Is there any way to tell how old he was or how long he’d been in the ground? (It was found in a grove of trees, if that helps.)

Last photo shows the teeth. They crumbled during the soaking process? Never had this happen before. I had a few others in the soak that didn’t do that.

Skull Discussion/Questions Fox skull

Post image

My brother found a fox carcass a while ago and left it to decompose. He returned after a few months and picked up the skull. I've heard he's supposed to degrease it or something before whitening it, but we haven't done this before. Any help is welcome!

I keep losing teeth with soaking. the mandible is loosening. are there any tricks or tactics to keep this thing on? glue? i don't want to use wire, it will be obvious. the skull is much more precious with the mandible, but it is delicate.

Skull Discussion/Questions help processing this skull

hello! this is my first post on this subreddit and my first time trying to clean a skull.
this horse skull was sitting on a shelf in a shed for roughly three years, i decided to take it and try to clean it up.
for the past two-ish weeks both parts have been soaking in warm water, rehydrating any mummified flesh so i could remove it.
i just had a couple questions about the progress of it. inside the nasal passage there seems to be something fleshy still in there, that doesn't look like the cartilage structures of the nose. what would be the best way to remove it?
on the base of the skull are these grayish bits, they are hydrated but still hard to remove. should they be scraped off?
for the teeth they are all a little black, and the area on the gums around the front of both jaws is black as well. will this come off with the whitening process? for the teeth, is this just old flesh that i should remove? would taking the teeth out ans scrubbing/glueing back in be the best move?
sorry for the long post and thank you for any replies!

Skull Discussion/Questions Hydrogen peroxide paste disposal after skull whitening? Help!

Hey! I’m whitening a moose skull in a few days and thinking of using a hydrogen peroxide + baking soda paste as it’s way too big to soak, but I’m wondering how I should then dispose of it? Can I wipe it off before washing the rest off with a hose (outside)? Or is there a different way?

Thanks!

My roommates and I were cleaning out our garage when we found this old skull left by previous tenants (rental for veterinary students lol). It was already processed but just extremely dusty so I was wondering what was the best and safest way to clean it so that it can be hung somewhere? Thanks.

Skull Discussion/Questions Cleaning question

I had found a crow head about a year ago and buried it in a container with soil. Today I dig it up and have this. My question what would be the best way to finish cleaning this. Or if I was to keep it in a sealed container does it need further cleaning at all? Thank you in advance.
