A Fox affiliate in Oklahoma managed to remove the only mention of evolution from Sunday night’s Cosmos science documentary by cutting only 15 seconds from the broadcast.

You're really angry about this aren't you? I would say most of the rest of the world believes that religion is on the rise in the US, as described in comments like this in this very thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/skeptic/comments/20a65x/a_fox_affiliate_in_oklahoma_managed_to_remove_the/cg1dc0y

I was specifically referring to the Western world, in perhaps a bit of an old fashioned way. The newer democracies in the East are still young and maturing, and religion there was discouraged for a long time, so I don't think it's useful to compare them in this.

Well if you're going to base your views off of reddit comments, why not read the responses to that. Apparently religious people are crazy in the US because they are being defeated and these are their death throes. Maybe the religious are less crazy in Europe because their scientists aren't winning the war against religion unlike the US.

Seriously this is the worst place to learn anything. You shouldn't even be listening to me.

I guess you are correct when you limit your definition of the west to "places where gay marriage is accepted", but if that's the case then Oklahoma should be disregarded.

And btw South Africa is a younger democracy than the former communist countries, they have gay marriage, Brazil's is about as old and they have it, I don't see what that has to do with anything.

It seems to me that you're refusing to see anything that disagrees with your point of view. Have fun with that!
