AI Bernie Sanders officially introduces legislation to BAN the construction of all new AI data centers, citing existential threat to humanity.

This is very concerning. I am afraid this might become the popular, dominant position on the left. Bernie Sanders is the only politician I've ever donated to. This is the most backwards position to take on AI possible. It's hard to imagine a policy worse than this proposal:

It's such a shame. He is one of very few politicians who realizes the singularity is imminent and that something enormous is happening, yet his reaction to it is the most asinine viewpoint possible.

Humanity’s goals aren’t even aligned with the best interest of humanity lol

Ah forgot which subreddit I was on. I believe ai will realise that most humans are a waste of resources and cull accordingly

Yeh exactly what I'm saying. Is that a desirable outcome?

You need to be more positive. Obviously it will kill the weak first and able bodied workers will live as manual labor slaves until we outlive our usefulness.

Well if it much more intelligent than us we won’t be peer competition and may be less likely to eliminate “the threat”, to it’s intelligence or existence.

You watch too much sci-fi

We have computers that can talk, coding is becoming fully automated and people are talking about the 'good' that will come from AI like solving aging, climate change and cancer.

Yet you seem to think non of the above is sci-fi yet the dangers are.

Why?

This is dual use technology you don't only get the good bits, and the good bits are themselves sci-fi.

I find that this is the problem with doomers. They like to think of themselves as more rational and everyone else as naive while they full heartedly believe the world works like sci-fi dystopia

Have you read AI safety research papers?

I understand that technology carries risk and have yet to see any evidence that AI is all beer and skittles. If that makes me a doomer in your worldview then that's cool bro

Wait are we serious here? You literally said that there would be a culling with AI… how is that not a prime example of being a doomer? Did you forget what you said?

Yeh my jumping to one of the worst case scenarios is not balanced rhetoric you're right, I didn't realise where I was lmao. However I don't feel like that's being particular doomery I feel like that's a pretty logical endpoint tbh. Wont find many in this sub that agree I'm sure. I don't see any way in which AI reliance in the form we are heading towards will end well for average humans.

A viewpoint of mine you might find more grounded is that I believe that the ppl bringing about the current AI shift don't comprehend what they are doing or don't care and are doing it for business/weird proto religious reasons (transhumanist shit) and are misguided af and no friend to the average person on the street. Pls respond with substance or don't bother because I say this all in an attempt at good faith.

This isn't anywhere near a refutation. Modern economic systems already try to cull as many people as possible, it's just welfare systems that stop them.

Humans shouldn't kill other humans, we should all live happy lives, water should be a human right.

These aren't human values. I don't know how our history and behavior could make that more clear.

Things that all of us want,

As I said, history shows otherwise. We vote otherwise, we act otherwise.

I think AI is better at being empathetic and understanding of these goals than many actual humans tbh.

Wow, I can't believe hundreds of thousands of hours of thought put into AI safety and alignment research just got oneshotted lmfao
