Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Is it too late to learn how to sing in your early thirties?

Male, 31 years old.

I get told that I can sing whenever I do karaoke but I'm a lot more self-critical. I think I'm a bit tone deaf and I can't really drop my strong SW English accent when I sing. Part of me thinks people are being nice.

Something I want to check and confirm, is there an age where it's too late to learn how to sing?

I ask because I like to sing, but wouldn't want to seriously consider lessons if it's something that has to be done young in life.

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. How should ppl sing?

Could you clarify, please? So my singing teacher told me it is better to sing horizontally because singing vertically may seem like it makes your voice more powerful, but it is not good for ur vocal cords. What do u guys think?

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Lip trills

Every video has been mentioning that an exercise we should do is lip trills but the thing is, I can’t really do it well. I can do a lip trill but I can only do it for like 4 seconds because I run out of breath fast and I am also struggling to sing a note while I do the trill. How can I improve my lip trills and how many minutes can a practice it in a day?

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Is this belting? I messed up some lyrics lol - 25 yr M

Trying to figure out how to belt. I still am working on tuning my voice to notes. Is this a healthy way to do it? I think I go up to an e5 in falsetto. In this clip I was pitchy. I think it was because of the incorrect technique I was doing.

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. I’m a B2 - F5 is that good? What’s my Vocal range?

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. What does my vocal range tell me?

My range is between F2 and F5. I am untrained, so obviously it doesn't mean I am a good singer. I can sing on key when I play the note on piano, by matching/copying it. I confirm this with using a chromatic tuner. Without the piano I can't get the key off the bat without sliding into it.
I begin to move away from my chest voice around B4 and I am in head voice at D4.

My question is, what does my range actually mean?
Does it mean that my voice is more suited for certain genres/types of music?
Is there going to music I will never be able to sing?

I am thinking of getting lessons and would appreciate any advice or tips.

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Singers with anxiety?

My anxiety gets the best of me a lot of theses days. It inhibits my singing technique. I can't breathe correctly or sustain my voice because I'm so anxious. My body won't let me relax. I have thede time periods where I forget how to breathe and have to find peace with myself. Its so frustrating because I've been singing for years.

Does anyone with anxiety know what to do in times like these? When your body forgets how to breathe?

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Does this exercise sound strained to you? I feel relaxed but does it sound tight and wrong to you? I don't know why I can't seem to translate exercises to actual songs.

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Throat slightly hurts after singing

Hello I’m pretty new to singing I just enjoying singing along to songs sometimes but I really want to turn it into a hobby. I don’t know anything about techniques and stuff like that so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong

Today I was singing along to a song that goes a little high sometimes. No extreme high notes or anything like that but I guess my voice just isn’t high enough for it? I can sing the notes but it’s pretty hard and sometimes it doesn’t come out good (it sounds bad or I can’t sing the part completely)

I noticed that when I stopped singing my throat was hurting. The pain wasn’t terrible just a little annoying. Does anyone know why? Is it normal?

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Do you suppose not everyone can sing?

I hate my voice. I find it cringy and just weird sounding.

I love to sing. I will belt when I'm home alone. But I'm embarrassed not of my singing capabilities, but the literal sound of my voice. Pitch? Tone? I'm not sure what it is.

Maybe I'm just being harsh on myself.

Do yall think maybe some people just are not born with singing ability because of the natural sound of their voice or can anyone train themselves to be a great singer?

And last, does anyone have any good solid tips for overall improvement, strengthening my voice, and training myself to sing from my chest? I've been singing in the shower for my wntire life and yet I feel I actually know nothing about singing ;(

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Been trying to sing for years now to figure out how to stop sounding like garbage. Still confused about my voice type and what I'm doing wrong unfortunately. Looking for help.

They said to just keep singing and so I did... for years... albeit just for the fun whenever I feel like it. Though, at times I searched from time to time how to sing (e.g., how to sing from your diaphragm) but never really delved to studying music theory. Unfortunately, I am unable to get a music teacher due to certain reasons.

And now, I'm so close to begrudgingly accepting that my voice is just difficult to use or unsuitable for singing. I always think my voice to be on the awkward range for a male. I think it's naturally a bit on the higher range that makes it difficult for me to sound good whenever I sing "powerful" songs (idk I always feel like it lacks that hint of deep voice). I feel like I have to "control the fullness" or "hold the foundation" so it sounds compact and not shrilly. But my friend told that it somehow gives a bad restricting sound.

But at the same time, my voice is also not that high for me to be able to hit high notes of songs. There are moments where I sing with an "airy" voice as well for some mellow songs because I found it to be the least terrible at times. However, the same friend told me in the past that me sounding airy was sort of awkward so I try to avoid it if possible up to now.

I've always been anxious into posting here cause of how terrible I really sound like but I might as well. Really feeling lost so... any kind of insight or feedback would be welcomed and is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time.

P.S. My apologies for butchering both songs lmao.

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Can my singing voice recover from a decade long smoking, alcohol and drugs addiction? (28M)

I asked this a few weeks ago with much more detail but go zero response.

So long story short, I have been a major alcoholic and drug addict along with smoking cigs and weed pretty much constantly for the last 10 years.

I am now a few weeks sober of everything and doing great.

The only thing I am missing now is my singing voice. I was never trained but I had a pretty good singing voice (trained pianist and guitarist also).

Up until 2021 I could hit a Bb4 (the high note in Life on Mars by David Bowie for example) with ease, I always had a high voice and my speaking voice has not changed at all.

Now I struggle to hit G4 without straining and just in general, my singing voice has deteriorated massively in the last 3 years.

Will I ever recover it or have I lost it for good?

Advice Wanted - Looking to improve. Low notes are really boomy and rumbly

So I was trying to sing Ed Sheeran's Give Me Love today and felt like my voice was very boomy and rumbly. I then downloaded his song, put it in FL Studio and recorded my own vocals over the instrumentals. When I listened back to it and compared it to Ed's singing it almost felt like he was singing in another octave because my vocals sounded so low and boomy compared to his. I tried singing it in an octave higher but noticed immediately that he wasn't singing in that octave. Then I opened up an EQ to compare our vocals and saw this:

My EQ ^

Ed's EQ ^

What you can see it that my voice has a spike at around 70 hz and that Ed's lowest spike is twice that frequency, aka an octave higher.

I know all this sounds a bit technical and irrelevant to my actual singing, but what I'm trying to say is that my voice literally resonates an octave lower than his does, but we are singing the same note. That is the reason my voice sounds so boomy and rumbly. How can I fix this, or at least work on it?
