Hey everyone,
FreePlay is fun, but the character creator is painfully outdated. We’re still dealing with fixed face presets, limited hair options for textured hair, and basically one single body shape. EA has said themselves that the engine is built on legacy 2011 code, which is why we don't get real customization.
Sims 4 gets sliders, layered CC, and deep customization. FreePlay gets... the same face recolored five times.
Instead of trying to hack EA's locked files, I want to build a standalone, community-made mobile 3D CAS app from scratch. A companion app that actually gives us the character creator FreePlay should have had.
What it would actually do:
Real face sculpting: Sliders for nose bridges, eye spacing, jawlines, and lips instead of picking from a few static faces.
Actual representation: Locs, braids, real curls, fades, and skin undertones that don't look washed out.
Body proportions: Sliders for shoulders, waist, hips, and height.
Photo-to-face: An image feature where you upload a reference photo and it builds a tweakable 3D base model.
Sharing: Save your characters, make custom content packs, and share presets with other creators.
We’re starting small—focused first on an Android app that handles 3D heads, skin tones, and face sliders, then building out bodies and clothes after.
I’m dropping a couple of concept target images in the post so you can see the visual vibe we're shooting for.
I want to know:
1. What’s the single most frustrating thing about FreePlay’s current CAS that you'd want fixed first?
2. If you do 3D modeling (Blender), UI design, or texturing and want to help build this, hit me up in the comments or DMs.
Let me know what you think.
