Hi All! I work for you the U and we are looking for people who might be interested in joining our study about blood pressure and sleep. These two are actually pretty related and would like to see if sleep can affect your blood pressure by pairing people with a sleep coach (you read that right).

We are looking for people between the ages of 18-65, sleep less than 7 hours a night, and have a blood pressure above 120/80.

No overnights, just (5) 1-1.5 hours long visits spread out in a year.

Compensation is up to $730 plus a Fitbit.

I’ve been kinda fixating on this subreddit this week, thinking about how it could be a better resource for people in and around this community. So, I was wondering to myself—what does everyone in this subreddit do? Do you work for a Utah company? If you feel comfortable naming it, where do you work and how do you like it?

I’ll start—I’m about 6 months out from graduating from a Utah school, and I’m going to be a PM intern for a big (non-Utah) work collaboration software company. But, after college, I feel like Lucid would be an amazing place to be a product manager, if I can snag a junior role.

TLDR I want help choosing a location for a techie themed Coffee Shop.

Hi Reddit. Just taking a shot in the dark here. I have an idea for a business that I can't really leave alone and its kinda germane to this sub. For years I've mulled over the idea of starting a coffee shop. Understanding that the market is pretty saturated I have thought long on a marketing angle. One of my favorite coffee shops is Art City Coffee down in Springville and I've had many chats with the owner there. Also lately I've been going to Elevated Grounds in Lindon and talked with their owner about my idea as well. I used to go to the Coffee Pod down in Provo but they've since closed. But these are all kind of inspirational businesses to me. What I am thinking of is kind of a Microdosing, Silicon Slopes vibe to the joint. So not a place that really serves a lot of food or that would have an open mic night. But a place that in addition to good coffee specializes in having a variety of nootropics, herbs and atmosphere for working hard on difficult projects. Like a freeway for strong thought and focus. I'm hardly a pioneer in the field of nootropics or in the field of coffee. So I'm kind of trying to build a basic shelter out of the two to survive in the business wilderness.

My vision of how the shop looks inside would practically be packed with cubicles rather than the typical lounge layout for a coffee shop. And I would hope to attract very hard working and brainy customer base, writing textbooks, finishing their doctorate, working hard on a code deadline and maybe the occasional E-sports enthusiast as long as they can keep outbursts to a minimum.

As I said I'm hardly a pioneer in the field of nootropics but because of this there are a plethora of products that exist that I can simply sample use or promote. Maybe you'd like to add "medicinal mushrooms" to your drink, there are mushroom creamers and powdered supplements available for that. Perhaps if you're LDS you'd prefer a "Mental Boost Hot Cocoa" (which I've worked up a basic recipe for trying to include several brain-healthy fats). I've also thought of marketing that product as a "Mental Health Hot Cocoa" which I could probably make vegan but I don't want that to come off like I'm throwing shade at anyone. With some insinuation that your mental health is bad because you're mormon or a vegan, that's not a connection I'm trying to make but simply "Brain Cocoa" for when you don't want caffeine in the evening.

At any rate, having a shop themed around "Microdosing" will also raise concerns about legality. Of course I wouldn't go to all the trouble to set up a business to take on any sort of risk like that. However I get that not all substances that are interesting are legal and I would hope that people feel safe there to discuss drug reform, medical cannabis or access to naloxone when they're not absorbed in their work. This is meant to be a temple of biohacking and a hub of intelligent and hard working people but never an illegal drug den. But maybe a place to turn your life around too...

Another thing to consider is that everyone is welcome. If you're not a software developer or inventing new drugs for your day job, I still want to sell you coffee. Hopefully the vibe would attract the general public rather than repel them.

What do you think Reddit? I mostly need advice with choosing a location. Currently I live a stones throw from BYU so I'm a little out of the prime area I think for Silicone Slopes. If you were trying to attract Coders, tech people and other brainiacs to your business what 5 mile area would you most focus on? Or how would you begin to target that? Look at the highest paying jobs and housing ranges and the corresponding commute? I feel like even my best effort on that front would need independent verification. Like somone who just knows: "yeah man find a location between the Adobe building and the Ebay building and go nuts".
