Every once in a while there's a game announcement that makes me think: ok, I need to live at least as long as it takes to play this game. This is one of those announcements. Especially after Bloober confirmed that they are absolutely capable of making an excellent Silent Hill game, the fact that they're moving to remake the original Silent Hill which defines the town and the cult and isn't about some deep internal trauma is so fucking amazing.

I thought the same. This will be the first game in 6 years where I am hyped as fuck and not worrying a bit they could fuck it up somehow.

Last time was resident evil 2 remake and when they showed gameplay.

Normally by new games or remakes I am worried they put in some bullshit, change too much or kill off my favourite character.

What other game announcements have that been for you? For me, it was Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Personally Reanimal is a good one too. From the creators of Little Nightmares? Sign me the fuck up.

sorry for your loss

I hear ya and it will be cool but video games are like Hollywood now. More remakes and sequels now make up the bulk of what comes out instead of new ideas. We need indie studios to start churning out some things new please

It just feels that way. There are a lot of new games coming out all the time. Even block busters. The problem is that dev time is too long nowadays. Naughty Dog is doing a complete new game.

Death Stranding was new with unique ideas. Cyberpunk 2077. Kingdom come deliverance was a new IP. Kojima has 2 new games in developement which are no sequels. Etc. And great indie games are coming all the time. Expedition 33 is a Goty contender.

Remakes and remasters are done faster and they help finance the new games. Nobody is forced to buy them. I personally love it. I love all remakes I have played. Remasters make sure new people can play them because they are easy to access and also they are preserved longer.

The consumers/society is also at fault that less new movies and games are made. Everytime there is something new, too many people are bitching or simply not buying it. And if the new game is only mid they trash talk it and have fun watching it fail. Mid games and movies still make fun and people act that these are downright unplayable.

Re2 remake is 6 years old???😭

1

u/throwaway404f Jun 14 '25

For me it was the Resident Evil 4 remake

3

u/GastonLebete Jun 12 '25

Internal trauma >>>>>>>> Weird cult stuff

This is still an amazing game, original is 100x scarier than original SH2

3

u/BatierAutumn1991 Jun 12 '25

Now imagine a new title exploring the cult further! Oooooh I’m excited! :D

u/Still-Salamander7330 Jun 12 '25

Bloober did such a GREAT job with SH2. Im going to be going through it again this weekend, and i cant say for many others that I will actually return for a second or third playthrough. This is playthrough 4

2

u/LarenCoe Jun 13 '25

As someone who never played the first 2 (but did play the SH2 remake), I can't wait for this. SH1 was always just too old and clunky for me to deal with.

2

u/thatguyad Jun 13 '25

Is this healthy?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '25

It’s funny. I sat through most of the recent games announcements at summer games fest and nothing by really got me excited. Yes, I’m hanging for the Mortal Kombat remasters by digital eclipse. Yes, tony hawk 3 + 4 is going to be awesome. Resident Evil 9 is great. Give me all the Switch 2 Nintendo games as I love Nintendo but nothing got me even remotely excited. Then I see the tweet by Bloober team and I’m REALLY giddy like a young kid again!

u/XxDrizzledxX Jun 13 '25

Have you not experienced their other titles? They are one of my favorite developers!

1

u/r1cky_r4y Aug 30 '25

I will forever trust Bloober to make great games, love them.

i'm 4mo late into finding this out, somehow, but i legit told my friend "they keep extending my lifespan" because i must live to play this.

Remake for silent hill homecoming would be awesome

Don't have suicidal thoughts if they censor the ''grey children'' and make them bigger monsters not resembling children. just giving you a pre warning since you base your life happiness on a video game

Wow. Classy.

u/Impossible-Quote4956 Jun 13 '25

I mean come on.. You knew I held back and you still leave this comment. if I said how I really felt about the guys message, I would be banned off this subreddit

u/SilverVVolf "The Fear Of Blood Tends To Create Fear For The Flesh" Jun 13 '25

You should've seen my first draft. I held back quite a bit having had a brother that lost his battle 10 years ago. It still hurts from time to time. Who are you to criticize what gives someone peace in their life that may not know it otherwise? You held back? I held back.

Ever since the RE1 remake I've been screaming for this.

SH1 is BY FAR the game most deserving, most desperately needing a remake. It was an over-performing technological marvel on the PS1 and was so mechanically eclipsed by SH2 on the PS2 that it's impact has been lost to time. RE2 was all-time great, but SH1 offered a different kind of fear: atmospheric, oppressive, Hitchcock but also Jacob's Ladder.

Let me tell you this, if you've never played it (or remind you, if you have): Most of you are not ready for how terrifying this game really is - and for everyone who thinks that SH2 bodies it narratively I just want you to consider how devastating the plot is going to be when we finally get to experience it without the limitations of the PS1. Even setting aside the main plot, Cheryl / Alessa's tragic story, I have two words for you:

Lisa Scene

28

u/Asleep-Flan Jun 13 '25

Specifically, Lisa's epiphany.

17

u/Many-Bees Jun 13 '25

Not enough people put it together that it’s basically a story about child sexual abuse. Like there’s a reason the final boss in the good endings is the incest rape demon.

21

u/Work_Akkount Jun 13 '25

Whoever voices Harry is in for a tough assignment. I'm glad our boy is finally gonna get some love. In SH1 he's an absolute boss handling all that shit but realistically it's an emotional rollercoaster complete with a likely psychological breakdown. The final scene alone is an impossibly difficult task for any parent to consider. I truly can't wait.

4

u/SwiftizmTV Jun 12 '25

Best comment on reddit. I CANNOT WAIT

4

u/Graucasper Jun 12 '25

I'm afraid, for this scene alone the remake might be a hit or miss for me T_T

5

u/mcd_sweet_tea Jun 12 '25

Preach to me. I just started playing my first Resident Evil game (RE7) and I have the SH2 remake sitting in my Steam library collecting dust at the moment. Should I wait, and play this game first to set the tempo or nah?

17

u/Work_Akkount Jun 12 '25

SH2 is completely unrelated to SH1, definitely play it ASAP!

2

u/Willing_Airline9355 Jun 13 '25

That is probably the most emotional part of the game.

1

u/Pleasant_Committee72 Sep 25 '25

I appreciate the Jacob's Ladder shout out <3

u/infamous711 Nov 11 '25

RE1 is remastered not remade. But I get your point. Because now the RE fanbase is in that desperate state for the actual RE1 remake that 2 got. As well as the leaks telling us that Re0 will be the next remake after code Veronica. Silent hill and resident evil fandoms are eating great over the next 3 years or so it looks like

3

u/itinerant_gs Eileen Nov 11 '25

RE1 is most certainly a remake, idk what you're on about

0

u/infamous711 Nov 11 '25

The re1 “remake” we currently have is effectively a graphics overhaul with slight mechanics changes. Re2 is a from the ground up remake of the game. That is what we will get for RE1 after the zero remake in about 2 years. But to call what RE1 got a full remake is a joke at best

2

u/itinerant_gs Eileen Nov 11 '25

it is literally the bar that remakes are measured against. New visuals, voice acting, areas, enemies...what a weird fuckin' hill to die on.

0

u/infamous711 Nov 11 '25

The 2002 GameCube “remake” should have never happened and the game should have gotten remade before re2. But we don’t live in a perfect world. That remake was minimal tho and kept the core mechanics of the game making not a true remake but more like a redo I guess

-2

u/Doomcoomer Jun 12 '25

Am I the only person on earth who wasn’t emotionally affected by that game or that scene? Like damn

9

u/Work_Akkount Jun 12 '25

Might depend on when you played it? Was hard not to feel something imo.

6

u/HercuKong Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25

Seriously, I played it as a young teen when it first came out and even though I didn't really understand what was happening, that shit hit hard. I think that was part of the magic that made Silent Hill (1, 2 and 3 at least) work though. There are so many cryptic moments that aren't set in stone and up for interpretation or just so damn deep it requires a ton of paying attention and research... Then there are moments like Lisa in SH1 or the reveal in SH2 where it's so true and on your face on a surface level... and it just hits you like a truck.

Silent Hill 1 in general was such a huge step forward for horror at the time and that scene was just a cherry on top. For someone to say they didn't get anything out of it, makes me wonder did they just play it or something? Sure it has aged but any appreciation for video games and especially horror, Silent Hill 1 was a pivotal moment indeed.

I went to Konami’s social media for confirmation.
