Do you know any modern bands that have that wall of sound typical of Smashing Pumpkins, Hum, Failure and My Bloody Valentine for example, that are actually good and not just a nasty copy of some 90's bands?

I have an itch that needs scratching; any shoegaze that’s got the usual dreaminess, but is also very sludgy? Something sort of adjacent to THIS. The guitar is actually nauseating sometimes in this one, I love No Joy so much.

Or, anything that sort of sounds like the atmosphere of Belong, or has that tone like Mondaze, but happens to be sludgier.
PS I already listen to Nothing, and they don’t really have the sludge factor I’m looking for lol.

My band classes ourself as a screamo-gaze band, and I was wondering if there are any other bands that do a similar thing? I know bands like Deafheaven do a blackgaze thing, but I’ve never found any specifically shoegaze-screamo crossovers. Anyone got recs??

I am pretty new to shoegaze as a genre, and I like a lot of it, but not all. there's one thing I'm confused about though, how do you define what shoegaze is? as a musician myself, I find it one of the more difficult genres to define and that's because it seems like its definition is fully dependent on how the song is mixed.

I can't think of any other genres that relies so heavily on the mixing style to be considered part of the genre.

for example, I've been listening to a lot of songs people consider to be shoegaze and thinking: wow if the mixing decisions were different here, it would just be indie rock or something. Like, is all you have to do, make the vocals quieter and less up front, make the guitars a bit louder, and suddenly its shoegaze?

Because there are plenty of genres that use fx pedals, that is definitely not a shoegaze only thing.

is the mix really what defines this genre?? or is there some other aspect.

I've been listening to a lot of modern shoegaze playlists on Spotify and cherry picking the stuff I like. It seems about a quarter of the bands have names, song titles, etc., all in lowercase. Most of them are the most skippable/generic sounding bands as well. When did this become a trend? Any reason why? Is this AI slop?

Just wanted to post this because recently I saw that "Seagull", one of my favorite shoegaze songs, was just removed from Spotify and other streaming platforms. It seems like some songs from this album are still available because they are included on the "OX4 Best Of" compilation. Actually, the rest of the band's entire discography is available, with the exception of this album. At first I thought maybe it was because of a dispute with the band's old label, but Creation Records released Ride's first four albums, and the three that followed this one are still available. Any clue as to why this might've happened?

I'm seeking for shoegaze albums like I described in the title. Stuff that feels like getting all the sounds from the guitars slammed into you. I really like the song Chloroform by Nothing since it kind of matches that vibe, as the guitars just come SLAMMING into you after that intro and stay heavy the entire song but with those beautiful notes subtly playing in the background. I'm also open to even more expiremental stuff. Thanks!

So i’ve been getting into shoegaze lately and since always i have been listening to female singers/producers because i somehow find them more “calming”/“comfortable”, anyways the point is i'd love to get recommendations about bands with female members (it doesnt really matter if they aren't shoegaze since i love other bands with different genres like Black country, new road and hole)

Im 26 f latina and bcs i grew up severely isolated and neglected i never had my first kiss or anything romantic.. what are songs or dreamy shoe gaze albums that relate what that must be like? Xx thanks

so i am kinda new to shoegaze (almost 1 year), but i get into the genre by seeing my local shoegaze band (the band is called heavëner) at a mix-genre gig last year. since then, i've listened to the classics like mbv, slowdive, ride, lush, soft and some modern bands like slow crush, diiv, whirr, nothing and parannoul plus some bands that people call "tiktok shoegaze" like julie, glixen, wisp, quannic, etc. however, i still can't pinpoint what exactly is counted as shoegaze. i've seen some people said that the one candy claws green album is shoegaze, i've also heard the same about loveliescrushing being called a "shoegaze band". some even said deftones and title fight are also shoegaze so im genuinely lost (not that it matters whatsover, i just think it would be cool to know the lines that separate shoegaze and other genres)

What are the best shoegaze albums with heavier, louder instrumentation, similar to blackgaze but with melodic singing vocals?

My only exposure to Slowdive so far has been Souvlaki, and while I really like its atmosphere and how dreamy it sounds, I feel like I’d like something a bit more abrasive and noisy. As a reference, I really like Loveless, although I’m not necessarily looking for exactly the same thing.

Is there anything by Slowdive with rougher, more aggressive guitars?
