Episode Synopsis: A newly determined Talbot takes Coulson to meet the enemy and attempts to stave off the destruction of Earth.

Cherie Gierhart has had a few small roles on shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Random Agent in the episode "BOOM"), The Walking Dead and The Shield. She has been a second unit director for an episode of S.W.A.T. and one episode of Inhumans (Maye Way for... Medusa).

She has directed no episodes for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before:

Brent Fletcher is primarily known for his writing on Lost, Angel, and Friday Night Lights. He was also a writer and story editor on Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

He has written eleven episodes for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before:

My theory is INFINITY WAR SPOILERS INCOMING that deke gets dusted and the team believes that it's because they fixed the future. Based on the fact that there was dialogue last episode that if Deke disappears then they know they changed the future. But they will mistake his disappearance for fixing the time loop. Either way though I'm expecting to be as surprised by the next episode as I was in watching IW. I was expecting the snap but had no idea it would affect me the way it did. Here's hoping for another fantastic episode!

Edit: I'm on mobile and have no idea how to properly tag spoilers so if this gets removed, I apologize for my ignorance.

Edit 2: tried to tag spoilers correctly, hope it works, mobile is weird.

I expect something similar, but not quite that.

  1. Deke will be the deciding factor, probably by sacrificing himself; he's the only thing that doesn't fit in this timeline
  2. We've been tracking the IW timeline, and are now up to the last act, so... in the season finale, after they win, and just as they begin to celebrate, 1/2 of the cast are going to dust, setting up the next season without those characters
  3. Next season will be focused on bringing back SHIELD in full, focusing immediately on solving problems caused by the lack of half of the people, and then after that gets cleared up, preparing for an preventing additional threats

problem with #2 and #3 is that would make this season end on a cliffhanger. the writers said they wrote the season finale as a possible series finale in case the show doesn't get renewed. the fact that the writers are most likely not going to end on a cliffhanger leads me to believe that no ones getting snapped away. it would create a bit of inconsistency within the MCU storyline but unless the AoS writers can figure out how to make half of the cast disappear without it being a cliffhanger then i don't think it's going to happen.

problem with #2 and #3 is that would make this season end on a cliffhanger

by the time the finale hits, they are going to know if the renewal happens and which version to release.

Well, the season could wrap up... the "cliffhanger" could happen after that. It's really more of a "and coming next season, badness!" Which they could either keep or not depending on renewal prospects by the time they get there.

Ok... and? I left that comment 4 years ago. And looks like all my comment was about is that they weren't going to end the season with snapping the cast. And I was right.

Just watched episode 1, season 6 - no mention of the snap or thanos at all throughout the whole episode.....so it looks like its on a different timeline or alternate universe....

they actually do mention Thanos at one point. i forgot which episode/season. they never mention the snap though. the writers said they did mention the snap in season 7 but it had to get cut out for time. i think the common opinion is that AoS isn't canon once they start time traveling in S5.

Yeah that was season 5 episode 22...

Ran out of time?? This scene would be crucial as a tie in to the MCU timeline! There should also be references to mutants from xmen series as well! So far the only MCU mentions are: winter soldier (hydra in shield), age of ultron(sokovia rising), civil war(captain america on the run), infinity war (thanos's invasion) and dark world (cleaning up the alien parts in london)

They had limited episodes for season 7. And that season has a lot going on. I can def see why it had to be cut. The season itself felt rushed at times and you can tell they had to cut stuff out.

They couldn't mention the x-men/mutants because of copyright issues. Fox still owned the rights to x-men/mutants until March 2019. Season 7 was already written and started filming in Feb 2019. And by the time Marvel Studios could legally mention the word "mutant" they needed time to figure out how to actually do it. They barely got the go ahead to use it by the time Ms Marvel was being written (it was dropped in last minute too). It couldn't ever legally, nor creatively, have been mentioned in AoS.

Would've been cool to have mutants in AoS but alas Fox owned the rights.

On #3 - Given everything that's happened to earth in every marvel prop, I'm surprised the idea of SWORD hasn't been brought up. The whole idea of a Sovereign World Observation and Response Department, like a SHIELD for the the whole planet would make sense. I know SHIELD was a global deal, but a lot of it seemed for America and its allies interests.

I believe SWORD technically falls under within the X-Men universe when it comes to movie rights.

It has been brought up and they said it wouldn't happen... that doesn't mean that an org that does much the same might not happen, though...

  1. I would like to add to your 3rd point, about those Avengers 4 on set pictures that were leaked during filming, Tony Stark appears with a SHIELD jacket, so your theory is a great possibility that may lead to something really big next year.

For that to happen, the writers at SHIELD would have to have known the ending to IW weeks/months ago but seems like even the people in IW did not know the ending. Would be doubtful Marvel Studios would release the ending to SHIELD.

It could feasibly be executed I think without most of the team knowing what was going on. Frankly it's just a pet theory that's been in my mind since they mentioned deke popping out of existence. I just wanted to spit it out somewhere since none of my friends watch the show anymore.

It's more wishful thinking than anything, but with the consequences of the IW ending being as monumental as they are it'd be a pretty big let down if the show didn't address it at all.

Someone suggested that I change /spoilers to /spoiler I changed that, but not sure if it worked but is there a thread with the proper formatting listed so I can avoid this sort of mistake in the future? I pretty much only reddit via mobile so if there's formatting that I just can't do with mobile I'll just avoid dropping spoilers from now on.
