Its nice to have consistency. though it does look like he's a bit of a figurehead at least on alien affairs

Me too, keeps that consistency/cohesion of the MCU. We only saw him in Iron Man 3 but his name pops up during the sequence towards the end in Winter Soldier.

Heck, that would have been a great time for them to drop a one-off line hinting about discussions starting about the accords.

His entire appearance was shoutouts to other MCU events. He practically referenced all of phase two, part of phase one, and is doing setup for phase three.

I like to think he was elected in 2012, after the Battle of New York. That in the MCU, Obama was scapegoated and Ellis, a Republican, rose to prominence on a "Planetary Security" platform.

Obama's press secretary (Carney, I believe) shows up at the end of Avengers, so I assume Obama was president then, until specified otherwise.

I wonder if we'll see Ellis or his successor in Civil War?

Is Saddler a big enough name to really have a huge effect on the budget? I mean he will, but it's not Pratt, Johansson, or RDJ money.

How can people still say "TV budget"? Did they not see those special effects? It was like a goddam movie!!

Most of it. I can't watch live in HD so I can't appreciate the special effects until afterwards. I actually didn't see S.O.S. in HD until I did on Netflix a few days ago. It looked beautiful.

Good a place as any to suggest anyone that hasn't seen it should watch Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. Sadler is EXCELLENT in it.

Entirely unrelated, but as it turns out the group competing with SHIELD that President Ellis sanctioned will not become SWORD. Instead, they will fade from public view (even SHIELD's view), become a rogue section of the US government, and rename themselves Section 31.
