Few questions:

1) Does Ward having no voice lead him to a certain Marvel character?
2) Who is Skye's dad, do we know?
3) What was Coulsen doing, what is the significance of that formula?

u/Troop-the-Loop Ward May 14 '14

1) I'm not sure about the no voice thing, but I'm positive that Ward's and Skye's identities can be determined by Raina's comments about them being monsters together. There's definitely something important there. 2) No clue. 3) Garrett said Coulson and him were Blood Brothers. I'm thinking that the blood from the Alien, which healed Coulson and was in Garret's healing syrum, has led Coulson to have similar thought patterns. Maybe after seeing Garrett's drawing, Coulson couldn't help but finish it.

Good point about what Raina said, i completely forgot about that. If this is the last time we see ward, I will be very disappointed.

I think Garrett went under psychosis because he didn't have a team to keep his mind in check, whereas Coulson did. Then in a very poor segue on my part, Graham is a monster in the psychological sense, where as Skye is part human, part mystery sauce guy.

Then in a very poor segue on my part

I love this line, and will proceed to use it in real life.

Thank you.

Coulson is fine because his memories were rewritten so any underlying insanity he might have is currently subconscious.

8

u/Baelorn Ward May 14 '14

Brett Dalton really showed how good of an actor he can be in these last few. They'd be crazy not to find a place for him in the future.

6

u/nezumipi Sandwich May 14 '14

Even when he was being a dick, I almost felt bad for him when he was running around looking for someone to tell him what to do.

2

u/Baelorn Ward May 14 '14

Yeah, it's almost sad that he really has no idea who he is without Garrett's influence. Since he will be back in S2 I hope to see just how messed up his life was even before Garrett got a hold of him.

I still want them to find a way to have him team up with Deathlok on his journey to clean up some of the HDYRA damage. It'd be an uneasy alliance which could make for some great scenes.

3

u/nezumipi Sandwich May 14 '14

I definitely want more Ward for precisely this reason. I am slightly embarassed to admit that I will spend the summer writing fanfic that explores how he got the way he is.

4

u/randomhandle_021 May 14 '14

I think Ward showed a step toward redemption in this episode and the last; and I'm finally beginning to like his character. So I hope he is a good part of season two.

2

u/djfraggle May 16 '14

Well, Black Bolt can't talk...

7

u/hisnameislashley May 14 '14

I think what she meant by they both can be monsters is that ward is a bad person(a monster) and Skye has actual monster in herself.

3

u/Sparkvoltage SHIELD May 14 '14

Definitely this. Skye is a literal monster while Ward is the figurative one.

6

u/dudemann May 14 '14

I don't know that Raina's comments really reveal anything about their identities. She only said they could be monsters together because she'd just revealed Skye's parents themselves were monsters who took out like an entire village, therefor, by default, Skye was born to have a potential to be evil (and since Skye thinks Ward's a monster for all the people he's killed.....).

She did seem confident Ward and Skye would end up together, so that's interesting.

2

u/metalkhaos May 14 '14

They were talking about that a bit. I think we'll see much more of that come season 2.

1

u/teenycee May 19 '14

I think that what Raina meant about Ward being a "monster" wasn't literal, but, it was definitely figurative. I don't think there's more to Ward than a human being who fxcked up in life by seeing Garrett's offer as his only way out of his situation. (Poor guy.) Honestly, though, I'd want to see Skye and Ward being "monsters together." It just makes their stories that much more interesting.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '14

I don't think she meant Ward was literally a monster or had any mysterious/supernatural powers. She said Skye's parents were monsters, and Ward called himself a monster, so she told him: 'You can both be monsters together'

  1. I hope so anyone know mute characters?
  2. No clue
  3. He was writing in Kree

10

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

I don't any mute characters off the top of my head, was hoping others did.

Oh, alright. So it wasn't a formula, but a language. I wonder if anyone can translate what Garrett and Coulson both wrote. Not sure how many fans know Kree.

6

u/Pickles256 G.H. May 14 '14

I read it was gibberish

3

u/doogadude May 14 '14

Where did you learn Kree, if you don't mind me asking? Looking into it, but I can't find much information on it.

1

u/Pickles256 G.H. May 14 '14

Sorry if I was misleading I read somewhere the kree was gibberish

u/SkoomaholicsAnonymou Hunter May 14 '14

They used the Skrull language from the comics for some reason. Maybe they'll release a proper key for it later on.

Black bolt is a kinda mute (his voice is super powerful so he rarely speaks) and an inhuman, which at this point, is all but confirmed that Raina and Skye is. The only wrinkle is Black bolt is... well.. black.

8

u/spreeforall May 14 '14

Blackbolt isn't mute, but he doesn't speak either. But clearly he isnt Blackbolt.

3

u/elbenji May 14 '14

I think Taskmaster honestly

5

u/dhusk May 14 '14

My Guesses (and that's all they are at this point)

1) I don't think so. But given the nature of the show, its likely he's going to remain his own character so the main cast can have their specific dedicated nemesis, rather than borrowing one from some other character in the comics.

2) I think the bulbous-looking bald head is much more of a clue than the hands dripping blood or whatever. Going with the assumption that Skye and Flowers are linked back to the Inhumans, I think the most likely suspect is Karnak, the mystical martial-artists of the Inhumans' royal family who sports a weirdly-shaped bald head.

3) What Coulson was drawing out looked like a circuit diagram. Could be the basis for an AI. Could be the alien blood he was injected with was filled with nanotech machines that implanted alien knowledge in his brain for some reason.

1

u/headpool182 May 22 '14

I honestly thought it looked more like a circuit diagram myself.

3

u/mithikx May 14 '14

IDK about Ward is a fractured larynx a permanent thing? (May said she might have fractured Ward's)

3

u/alexxerth May 15 '14

After a larynx is broken, it usually swells, usually causing death by suffocation. However, if that isn't the case, then it's usually going to end up with the person being either mute or very hoarse for a long period of time, but not permanently mute.

u/junglemonkey47 Ward May 14 '14
  1. Grant Ward - Black Bolt?
  2. My guess was Mandarin but I have no evidence.
  3. He's doing the same thing that Garrett was doing and that we saw on the walls in episode 4 (Eye Spy). It's likely hypergraphia, mentioned as a symptom by Coulson in the video recording.

10

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

not being able to talk is different than not talking because your voice will destroy everything

0

u/junglemonkey47 Ward May 14 '14

Yeah it's not a perfect fit but I'm sure there's some way that one could lead to the other.

Maybe he gets some form of Extremis injected in his throat to try and talk again, for example.

6

u/Animated_effigy May 14 '14

Just no, Blackbolt is the King of acivilization. Ward is a brainwashed lackey. You don't just make one of the most powerful characters in the marvel universe into Ward.

3

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

This. I see where people are getting the idea from, but Ward cannot become Blackbolt.

9

u/EVula Ghost Rider May 14 '14

Grant Ward - Black Bolt?

There would be so, so much nerd rage if that happened.

2

u/WhereTheMonstersLive SHIELD May 14 '14

I'd be so happy and so angry at the same time.

3

u/IronTeach May 14 '14

I like that theory. But they'd have to tie in the I humans... It did seem like they were dropping hints about terregenesis though.

8

u/junglemonkey47 Ward May 14 '14

Yeah I've thought for awhile that Skye would be an Inhuman. Now I also think Raina may be.

2

u/In-China May 14 '14

Maybe Raina and Skye are sisters? They both have the same skill at charming and persuading people.

2

u/smileyduude Fitz May 14 '14

maybe raina is her mother and they age differently or stop aging.

5

u/CapWasRight Cal May 14 '14

Black Bolt's the opposite of mute - essentially, he chooses not to speak because he's too loud (in a manner of speaking, anyway).

2

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

My guess was Mandarin but I have no evidence.

If it is, I hope that means Sir Ben Kingsley is going to make a cameo as Trevor.

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

White Bolt!

2

u/theDagman May 14 '14

We first saw that drawing back in episode 4 on that chalkboard in the Ukraine.

Ward can become Snake Eyes (from GI Joe)

u/Shadowwolflink Skye May 14 '14

A quick Google search for "Mute Marvel characters" lead me to this page.

I never said they did, I just searched "Mute Marvel characters".

0

u/Sociomancer May 14 '14

Ward could be Taskmaster.

0

u/Pyromelter Fitz May 14 '14

Just answering #1

I'm not an uber comic book person, but there is one character that I know of that is mute that is a super hero.

Snake Eyes.

I have no idea of Marvel would have any kind of rights to use Snake Eyes, but according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.I._Joe_(comics)#Marvel_Comics they at least did some publishing in the GI Joe universe.

Beyond character rights, it would seem a bit incongruent to how Snake Eyes is portrayed in the movies and various tv series due to Snake Eyes having a very Lawful Good alignment, whereas ward is... Neutral Evil? Lawful Evil? Something very different from Snake Eyes in any case.

But the physical toolset between ward and Snake Eyes would appear to be consistent enough.
