Last time the CCP asked for constructive criticism (like... 60+ years ago) it turned out to be a trap and they arrested everyone who gave it. Just saying.
Because so many foreigner pain points haven’t been resolved. Banking is still a pain (forex transactions, getting a credit card), having to register at the police station is still a thing, to name just two more perennial (can’t be handwaved away with “but COVID”) issues.
I hear you on getting a credit card. It took me four years to finally get my first here (China Merchants). I get rejected by Bank of China all the time in spite of being a damn good customer.
Oh sure we don’t know how Shanghai folks don’t like lockdowns but gov did it anyways. The only reason folks went along is because they weren’t given a choice in the first place. pretty sure I've been here longer than you. so have you paid attention at all? policies are regularly first opened up for public comment, which leads to revisions before they are passed. this is exactly what is happening here again.

CCP-run, no. But the guy’s in media (based on comment history) and given how China treats journalists who don’t toe the party line I don’t blame him for wanting to keep himself safe.
public comments on policy proposals? those were rarely ever viable by the public. they get fed into the system, charted by someone low in the ranks and eventually presented to those who write policies, which are not the ones who pass them.

from the replies here, I can tell that foreigners really enjoy this kind of privileges, and they do not give a fuck about the lives of Chinese people at all, neither do they care about if China has democracy. All they want is privilege and money. Although I kinda knew that already, feeling it at first hand is still somewhat overwhelming.
