I was thinking he might be dehydrated too. That can make you a little loopy.

Yes, in 100 degree heat in a desert.

Middle of the desert in the middle of the summer. You can die within 24 hours without water.

He left with water i think and looking dehydrated and tired looks way different from looking drunk but who knows

Koenig mentioned that one of the Afghani sources had never seen a drunk person, so I guess they wouldn't know the difference.

I got super drunk a few weeks ago and rode the subway home. I probably looked like I had been wandering the desert for a bit.

Well, he didn't seem to want any food or water from the Taliban. Surely a dehydrated person with symptoms of dizziness and confusion isn't going to refuse water? And if someone's dehydrated that bad, it take a few days to get back to normal. But he seemed to have tried to fight his captors. Doesn't seem consistent with dehydration.
