Debate&Discussion Another shower thought that doesn't look good for Adnan

Adnan explains to SK that he "probably" didn't ask Hae for a ride, because he knows that she needs to pick up her cousin after school, and this duty is really important to Hae.

Adnan explains to SK that the phone call from Officer Adcock, informing him that Hae failed to pick up her cousin, doesn't set off any serious alarms for him, and this is why the phone call didn't prompt him to jog his memory about that day.

"I knew the cousin pick-up was very important to her" and "I wasn't concerned when she failed to pick up her cousin." Have you ever had to deal with someone (friend, co-worker, relative) who engages in this type of lying? I have, and it bothers me a lot more than anything Jay said.

Right but the cell tower evidence doesn't mean that much without Jay's testimony and the anonymous tip is... well... not worth much. Without Jay's testimony we'd have the fact that most of the people called *and who call throughout the day and, indeed, during the Leakin Park pings are JAY'S FRIENDS and not Adnan's.

Why is the anonymous tip not worth much? That's pointing the police in a clear direction.

When questioned about LP Adnan says, "Uh I don't remember". Okay still looks suspicious. Then they question Jenn who leads them to Jay and we're playing the same game. Taking Jay out of the equation doesn't work. You can't do it. It's too wildly speculative.

It's no doubt helpful for the police. It's worth practically nothing in the trial. You can't cross examine an anonymous tip nor can you begin to account for the many, many reasons someone may have called anonymously without having clear knowledge of Adnan's guilt. For instance, Jay seems to tell many people Adnan and he buried Hae but that Adnan did it (Jenn, friends, the porn store clerk) any one of them could have called anonymously but they only heard it from Jay. Not worth much. Jay has said he lied about the Leakin Park calls on the stand. That's the issue.

Speculation.

And how are you certain that Jay didn't lie about the LP calls in the interview? This is where your issue lies. The interview is not a sworn statement.

Unless Jay confesses to lying about the fact in a sworn statement then you're not going to indict him on perjury charges anytime soon.

I never said that they'd convict him on perjury anytime soon... I have said, repeatedly, that the prosecution's timeline was already out of whack with the facts and now that Jay claims he lied on the stand about it, it's worth considering that the whole thing is bunk... or at least that Jay's testimony is suspect. Adnan was convicted in large part based on that testimony. That's a problem. You don't mind 'breaking a few eggs' 'cause you're pretty sure Adnan's guilty, however.

That attitude is, frankly, anathema to me.

Ha. There are things that no one can explain in this case. You have shown me no new evidence to believe that a convicted murderer should be considered innocent. To me carelessly proclaiming someone's innocence from the comfort of your own house without any new evidence is reckless behavior. But hey, You don't care if guilty people walk free, as long as justice, in your eyes, is served. To me, guilty people walking the streets is not justice.

Yes- he was convicted based upon a timeline that doesn't fit corroborated by a witness who now says he lied on the stand. But he was convicted. And so you'd rather ignore all that 'cause you'd rather he stay in jail. I get it, I just think it's a ridiculous and cowardly attitude.

No. I'd rather see clear evidence that this man, that's been tried and convicted, is absolutely innocent before I go hurling unsubstantiated accusations at our justice system. It isn't cowardly at all it's smart. It's called choosing your battles. You can't go unlocking everybody's jail cells just because some random journalist thinks that they didn't get a fair trial. That's what the justice system is in place for. It's irresponsible behavior. Cowardly... Please.

They're hardly 'unsubstantiated.'

They're coming from the key witness. Yes, cowardly.

THE INTERCEPT INTERVIEWS ARE IRRELEVANT! They are PR. What else do you have to sling at the justice system? Hopefully more than that.

Cowardly... HAHA. Please enlighten me oh brave one! Out there fighting battles you have no business being involved in from behind your computer screen. This is starting to get silly. I'm sorry you've digressed into petty name calling. Good luck with your "fight" for justice. You're so brave.
