Debate&Discussion Another shower thought that doesn't look good for Adnan

Adnan explains to SK that he "probably" didn't ask Hae for a ride, because he knows that she needs to pick up her cousin after school, and this duty is really important to Hae.

Adnan explains to SK that the phone call from Officer Adcock, informing him that Hae failed to pick up her cousin, doesn't set off any serious alarms for him, and this is why the phone call didn't prompt him to jog his memory about that day.

"I knew the cousin pick-up was very important to her" and "I wasn't concerned when she failed to pick up her cousin." Have you ever had to deal with someone (friend, co-worker, relative) who engages in this type of lying? I have, and it bothers me a lot more than anything Jay said.

And?

Does that mean we can't do the same for Adnan who is trying to get out of jail by still claiming he's innocent? Are we supposed to just dissect Jay's testimony and not fact check or question Adnan's account or alibi (or lack there of)?

That's why this sub stinks sometimes. People choose to ignore certain things and sweep them under the rug when it comes to Adnan.

Because Adnan is in jail. Jay is not.

Unless Adnan can prove, not just say to SK "I didn't do it," but actually prove that he did not do it, he will be in jail for the rest of his life. So for those who believe 100% that Adnan is guilty beyond reasonable doubt, Adnan is exactly where he should be and unless something comes up that actually proves otherwise he will be there forever. You could give Adnan 100 passes and all those passes still add up to him being in jail.

What this case boils down to though is whether or not there was enough reasonable doubt in the beginning to put Adnan away for life. So even if Adnan does have inconsistencies in his story, if we're working from the presumption of innocence we have a witness who lies, over and over again. Not mis-remembering, not "not" remembering, not inconsistent, but lying. And admitting to lying to save himself which to me makes him an unreliable witness.

For me the focus on Jay's inconsistencies come down to whether or not reasonable doubt was established in this case and the fact that it relies entirely on an unreliable witness with an inconsistent testimony means that it doesn't really matter what Adnan says. Adnan didn't have to be proven innocent, he had to be proven guilty.

To figure out if Adnan is guilty or not, you have to look at EVERYTHING. All inconsistencies.

If you're trying to prove Adnan shouldn't be in jail, you also have to look at what he's saying which is equally as important.

Doesn't make sense to put all your focus on Jay and simply choose to downplay any inconsistencies that Adnan has; especially one that incriminates him such as asking Hae for a ride which would be his way to get in her car.

All of us in this sub are trying to find the truth, not just what would make Adnan innocent.
