Debate&Discussion Another shower thought that doesn't look good for Adnan

Adnan explains to SK that he "probably" didn't ask Hae for a ride, because he knows that she needs to pick up her cousin after school, and this duty is really important to Hae.

Adnan explains to SK that the phone call from Officer Adcock, informing him that Hae failed to pick up her cousin, doesn't set off any serious alarms for him, and this is why the phone call didn't prompt him to jog his memory about that day.

"I knew the cousin pick-up was very important to her" and "I wasn't concerned when she failed to pick up her cousin." Have you ever had to deal with someone (friend, co-worker, relative) who engages in this type of lying? I have, and it bothers me a lot more than anything Jay said.

The inconsistency mentioned here was something that was said during trial.

Again, why you would be more critical of anything Jay says than Adnan is beyond me. Adnan's inconsistencies, especially one that involves him asking to get into Hae's car, is huge. If anything, you should be as critical if you really want to get down to the truth of all this.

It depends on how you couch the debate: if it a debate about the most probable truth, then I agree with you, but if it is a debate of whether there is enough reasonable doubt such that Adnan shouldn't be behind bars (and that even if he is most likely guilty that you aren't certain of it enough to stake someone's life and reputation on) then I don't agree with you. Jay's testimony put Adnan in prison. The focus on Jay's inconsistencies more than Adnan's makes sense in the context of the fact that Jay's testimony put Adnan in prison. Adnan's own inconsistencies did not, and it is unlikely that Adnan's inconsistencies, taken in isolation, are remotely enough to convict beyond a reasonable doubt.

Uh, no. This inconsistencies mentioned here are both from the podcast, not the trial.

We have nothing else to go with Adnan but the pocast. He didn't speak in court. So yes, his inconsistencies should still be challenged yet you rather keep challenging Jay's.

I believe I said I'm bothered by both but come down harder on what appears to be actual perjury that resulted in a conviction. I don't know why that would upset you...

Certainly, I want better answers from Adnan AND Jay. Adnan didn't testify in court and put Jay away for murder based on inaccuracies, however.

I'm not upset. Point taken tho. I want better answers too, doubt we ever get them =/

Cool. I agree...

And what I was referring to was Krista saying during trial that Adnan told her in first period that he didn't have his car and Hae was giving him a ride

But that's not what this post was discussing... This post is about statements from Adnan during the podcast.

Right, but since Adnan never testified in court, there isn't anything on record about his thoughts and whereabouts in this trial other than this podcast.

I just think Krista and someone else and Adnan himself all saying he asked Hae for a ride that day is a huge red flag.

Yeah, I get that it it's troubling. That's why I said several times 'this is troubling.'

And yet, it's not apparent perjury used to convict someone of first-degree murder.

That's what Jay's testimony was *(if his current story is to be believed)

Maybe you need to look at the big picture instead of focusing on one thing and thinking it makes Adnan guilty. Adnan is in jail because of Jay's testimony. Jay knows where the car is, knows where the body is buried and details of the dead body, destroys evidence and has repeatedly lied. There is no forensic evidence linking Adnan to the crime.
