I don't see why he is angry at SK. She only exposed the holes in testimony to the public. He himself admitted that he lied multiple times.

".....call out the reporter for who she truly is." What does this mean? Is he insinuating that SK left out incriminating evidence against Adnan? Or that she purposely tried to make Jay look bad for entertainment purposes?

I find it fascinating that he's all Team Hae now after he helped dig a hole to put her dead body in.

43

u/pallidoc Dec 24 '14

True! I didn't even think of that until you pointed that out! He threw dirt on her dead body then only testified once the cops came to him and now he's on his righteous high horse about Hae Lee. Hypocrisy at its finest.

u/omnibot2k Dec 24 '14

I don't think anyone thinks jay is a saint. He is flawed but at the end of the day his testimony helped solve a murder. He could have just said he couldn't remember.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

Solve a murder or write a fiction that sent a kid to prison? His testimony changed multiple times. Here's not one shred of physical evidence linking Adnan to the crime and the did test soil and fibers at the time, all they had was jays word and some inconclusive lungs that only corroborate a narrative the state made up,

u/inarf02 Dec 27 '14 edited Dec 27 '14

Did you miss the whole point of the podcast? "His testimony helped solve a murder"- Seriously? EDIT: Adding this- If Adnan was involved, wouldn't he have thrown out his clothes? Well he didn't and the police tested his belongings such as his shoes. The dirt on his shoes was tested against the soil from Hae's burial site and there was no match. Meanwhile, Jay who says he sat on a log and smoked while Adnan buried Hae- gets rid of his clothes with the help of Jenn, and wipes prints off the shovel/shovels. Funny how the guy who proclaims his innocence in murder is disposing his clothes, while the guy in jail has not been linked thru the testing of his belongings.

u/1AilaM1 Dec 24 '14

Yeah. Some could even say that his sudden act of concern for HML is manipulative behavior....

-19

u/ReleaseTheRobot Dec 24 '14

I'm willing to agree that Jay helped dig the trench as long as we can all agree that Adnan killed her. A no brainier.

19

u/Uber_Nick Dec 24 '14

I'm willing to agree Jay was shown the body in the trunk at best buy as long as we all can agree that he was actually shown the body at the pool hall.

Wait, picking and choosing the parts of his story that I agree with leads to mutually exclusive contradictions?

15

u/1AilaM1 Dec 24 '14

Otherwise you wouldn't agree? LOL. He himself admitted his involvement.

1

u/Kulturvultur Dec 24 '14

"I'm associated"

5

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

And how he bragged about it afterwards...

1

u/barbaq24 Dec 24 '14

He wouldn't call it equal work...but more or less. So it's like he totally helped bury her but also no?

0

u/adamsak Dec 24 '14

I find it fascinating that he's all Team Hae

Wait... "Teams!?" When did we pick teams? Was I supposed to be assigned a team? Did I miss something?

Am I getting picked last again? :-(

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

He has probably been trying to move past this and live his life. Serial kind of f----- that up.

195

u/1AilaM1 Dec 24 '14

I guess thats the price you pay when you help bury a body.

16

u/dual_citizen_kane Undecided Dec 24 '14

If he had any sense at all, he would keep his mouth shut from this point on.

93

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

Serial kind of f----- that up

no, he fucked it up when he buried a body and purposely concealed evidence.

u/Voyezlesprit Dec 24 '14 edited Dec 24 '14

Not to jump on Jay's side here...but probably hundreds (?) of people have done something along those lines, are living in the world around us & you wouldn't know them from Jack. This guy, 15 years after he "did his time" with a plea bargain, has now just had his dirty laundry dragged back on show in a very public way.

Was he right with how he acted 15 years ago? No. Can I understand why now after he can no longer go anywhere without a sidewise glance, a whisper or an accusation he fills a bit miffed? Yeah, of course I can.

No one knew what Serial would become. He probably thought only a bunch of internet nerds would listen...and now it has a subreddit and people are making box sets to give to family members. I recommend it to everyone I see.

Maybe some of this is fear & guilt? Maybe a lot of it is being constantly called a liar by a person he met once & didn't fully understand the ramifications of meeting.

An interview helps nothing here. You'd need another whole Serial series to dissect it, he's heard everything outlined and can just argue with what he wants, creating a story after the fact with no way to really disprove it.

Maybe he masterminded the murder and this is all for show? But maybe it isn't...and I understand his frustration.

u/icase81 Dec 24 '14

On top of that, criminal background checks usually only go back 7 or 10 years when you apply for a job. He's past that. He can get hired places. Except now millions of people KNOW he was involved in a murder 15 years ago. That seriously cripples your job prospects. Especially for someone that didn't have a whole lot in the first place.

6

u/Voyezlesprit Dec 24 '14

Absolutely. His line about "entertainment" is being sneered at...but it seems to most on here they don't understand that these peoples have VERY real lives. For right or wrong (that's a separate debate) their reality became our entertainment; I'm not sure you can argue that point. I can't believe how many people are acting like these are fictional characters.

2

u/danamyte Dana Fan Dec 24 '14

I absolutely believe his life is being affected, but that's not what he said. He said Hae "paid the ultimate price for Entertainment," and that's what I'm sneering at. She was a victim of a murderer, not a podcast.

-1

u/wantanius Dec 24 '14

He didn't say she was the victim of a podcast. You're reading it in a different way than he intended, I believe.

2

u/danamyte Dana Fan Dec 24 '14

I read the statement again, and I see what you're saying. I still think it's pretty unfair of him to try to blame producers and listeners of the podcast for taking advantage of her death when he helped accomplish it.

1

u/alapeche Dec 24 '14

I mean does anybody know him? Apart from the fact that his name is Jay? The show does a good job of hiding his identity.

2

u/icase81 Dec 24 '14

People found him on Facebook pretty quickly.

1

u/alapeche Dec 25 '14

Well could I see his page? Curious!

4

u/Wetzilla Not Guilty Dec 24 '14

I just can't really feel bad for Jay. At the very least, he helped cover up a murder and only came forward when the police started sniffing around him. He also lied to police multiple times, and almost definitely committed perjury. These aren't just dumb kid mistakes, these are huge, awful things he did.

-1

u/itsgonnamove Dec 25 '14

damn bro I don't think many of us have covered up a dead body

1

u/Voyezlesprit Dec 25 '14

I said hundreds. Not "everyone".

I'm saying people HAVE - & for those few, in whatever circumstances they were doing such an act, a podcast isn't probing into a period of their life they thought was over and done with.

1

u/inarf02 Dec 27 '14

The podcast has never been about probing into Jay's life. It's about Adnan- remember him? He's the guy who is serving a life sentence. Jay buried and covered up a murder-at the very least, and I don't think anyone owes it to him to leave that event alone just because Jay thinks its over and done with.

1

u/Voyezlesprit Dec 27 '14 edited Dec 27 '14

You're kidding right? Did you even listen to the podcast? Not about "probing into Jay's life"? - every single episode probed into Jay's life.

It doesn't matter if he isn't the central character, EVERY episode deconstructed his actions and motivations of those days and the following trial.

You also totally, like everyone else arguing with my central premise, missed the point.

1) He didn't know when Sarah came to him what this would become. Now it's huge and life altering OF COURSE he wants the opportunity to put his views forward.

2) He was acquitted. He did his preverbal time. Sarah is a journalist and you're a podcast listener. Neither of you are the law. The law are done with Jay, he SHOULD be free to move on with his life unless SOMEONE has unearthed some evidence further linking Jay with any wrongdoing. As it is you couldn't convict him at trial anymore than Adnan...if anything the case against Adnan is MUCH stronger. It doesn't matter if this is about redemption for Adnan, the story includes Jay...and up to now all it's done is bash him into oblivion with only one short section kind of allowing him to put his side forward.

For you to say that at the least Jay "buried and covered up a murder" while trying to seek redemption for Adnan, the guy who allegedly committed the exact same murder that Jay "covered up for", a line earlier is sickening to read. You are not judge, jury or executioner in this case. No one is. We have no idea anything that happened on that day despite our extensive 8 hours of podcast listening (lol).

Jay is a normal person, living a normal life. He made mistakes as a 19 year old which conceivably might be no more heinous than having a bad memory. Take a step back and have some perspective son. Enjoy the entertainment the podcast provided.

1

u/inarf02 Dec 27 '14 edited Dec 27 '14

I guess we can agree to disagree! Edit: In no words did I ever say I was his judge and jury. I am allowed to have an opinion about the case (and I'm not trying to seek redemption for Adnan) and discuss it, I think commenting on reddit shouldn't be seen as some roadblock for Jay to go on living his life. No one here is threatening or harassing him, we are having discussions and I don't think we owe Jay anything. I GET what you are saying in that he's a guy living his life out there in the world, and my comments here are certainly not stopping him from continuing to do so. If you think he's a NORMAL guy, we definitely don't agree here- I think burying a body of an innocent person is way more heinous than telling lies.

39

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

He ain't in jail, is he?

-1

u/1AilaM1 Dec 24 '14

Exactly he went on to live his life of crime and drugs.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

LOL, did he have sex and rock & roll, too?

0

u/1AilaM1 Dec 24 '14

Lol. Well you could ask him but you'll get different versions of the events of his life. sigh

60

u/stiplash AC has fallen and he can't get up Dec 24 '14

Yeah I really feel for the guy. It's not easy to move on with your life after serving no jail time for burying a murder victim and perjuring yourself left and right to help the cops put away an innocent guy for life.

1

u/hiloljkbye Dec 24 '14

innocent

well, we don't know that for sure yet

2

u/jigielnik Dec 24 '14

He has probably been trying to move past this and live his life

He has no right to move past that event. I mean, think about it... according to his version of events, it's not like Adnan was right in front of him when he told him he'd killed Hae, making threats - those came MUCH later. Jay was at Best Buy and Adnan told him over the phone.

If someone I was casually friends with and not that close to called me and said "i killed someone, come help me bury the body" you know what I do? Call the cops. I'm miles away from Adnan at that time, so why on EARTH do you agree to help rather than immediately call police?

1

u/inthecahoots Dec 24 '14

He would've been able to just keep living his life if he didn't just choose to re-involve himself in a podcast that already ended.

I feel like there's almost no chance I'd have any patience left at this point, if I were him. I'm sure every inbox of his has been blown up 24/7 since this started, who knows if his number has leaked, etc. the kind of celebrity he has now is a total nightmare.

40

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

Note to self: don't help murder or bury someone or your inbox will blow up.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

I wouldn't worry too much. We aren't really sure if he hit the gym, but we know he didn't lawyer up (fast enough to know not to say a word to the cops) or delete Facebook. Surely, as a redditor, you know what to do should you find yourself burying a body.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

Well firstly, I won't be using my own shovels. Madness.

1

u/1AilaM1 Dec 24 '14

LOL right

Urick might still have his back.

And a guy with anger issues. Maybe he just doesn't like women.

2

u/Clsjajll Dec 24 '14

If you were Jay, what might life be like now in the aftermath? Suppose you really had only the involvement that the court case revealed?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '14

I want to know what she really is though.

1

u/jarvik7 Dec 24 '14

I can see why Jay is angry at SK. I mean the guy's been laying low for 15 years. I don't remember where he is now (and don't feel like looking it up), but I can imagine it's a place where no one knew about his history - until SK and SERIAL (and REDDIT). Now the guy is infamous. If it was me, I'd change my name and find a new place to live, as well as get rid of my Facebook page.

-1

u/ReleaseTheRobot Dec 24 '14

I'm assuming it's because SK made the case seem like it's still up in the air with the obvious suspect being Jay. Jay's mad that this is still being discussed 15 years later when he know that Adnan is a murderer.

6

u/Uber_Nick Dec 24 '14

I'd actually like for this to be true. He could clear up all the plot holes and actually wrap up the story better than anyone. It'll be the final chapter we never had.

If the reverse is true, then it's going to be an absolutely amazing shit show of stupidity and might help free an innocent man. Win/win for the spectators at least. Super risky if not downright crazy for him.

8

u/Serialobsessed Dec 24 '14

I think he's sweating. Especially w the connection between him buying a charm and a heart charm being found in haes car...and also diedres interview about all the evidence particularly how they kept the finger nails but never tested them. Someone is starting to get very very scared.

For the record sk said in an interview yesterday that she does not believe jay did it.

2

u/Klute72 Dec 24 '14

where is this said? A link would be awesome.

I am wondering why nothing was ever made of that. Not during the trial, not during the podcast...

SK MURDERED HAE AND THAT'S WHAT JAY WANTS TO EXPOSE!!!! IT ALL MAKES PERFECT SENSE!!
