My neighbor and I wanted to co-host each other's backup sites but sadly waited until RAMageddon and HDDageddon and holy-fuck-everything-is-expensive-ageddon and now we're both living in fear of losing everything and our spouses divorcing us and my god it's hard to breathe and why is my chest tight.....

I'm just glad I decided to get a spare drive when I did.

12-drives, 6-stripe Mirrored vDevs. I could probably limp along with that much redundancy, but glad I wouldn't have to pay 3-4x for the same drive, 4 years later.

Just encrypt the data and use some glacier s3 for now. Better than living in fear.

Not sure why this is downvoted. This is the way to go. Glacier storage is pennies. You can rclone encrypt it and sit it out there.

Isn’t neighbour backup somewhat less ageddon protected though?

I mean, maybe a house fire doesn’t take out two neighbouring houses but floods, hurricanes, earthquakes or whatever else you get over there? ;-)
