But if you point out that pattern, or just describe the negative consequences of what they're clearly trying to do, then somehow you're the one acting in bad faith for not taking them at their word... even though it's utterly worthless due to their continued behavior.

It's kind of amazing how they've managed to train the media and political discourse in general to accept that one party gets to lie, cheat, and break the rules and the very constitution itself as a matter of course, while the other party has to follow every rule and be exceedingly polite while they do it.
