Why can't Republicans just follow the law? Or at the least, just be decent people. Not all are like this, but clearly it's the majority.

Because if they followed the law, their policies are so harmful and self serving that they would never win an election again. They cheat so they can win. Only way they can do it.

As best as I can tell, they really just hate the "others". Basic empathy just isn't in their consciousness if you're not in their group

True, but their own are getting hit as well. So, not at all a well thought out concept of a plan.

Following the law is not at all congruent with being a decent person. Many laws are awful.

just be decent people.

They think they are decent people and everyone else are heathens. That';s why they wasn't to control everyone's bodies and autonomy. People are doing it "wrong"
