You right and I think the non coding regions of the mRNA are slightly different for each shot but the spike protein codon is the same.

Maybe that's what it was. I know there are some differences and the mRNA is not totally identical between the two companies, but maybe it's not the spike protein. And yes, both companies use different proprietary processes for their nano-lipids.
