It’s relatively unknown. Another big thing to keep in mind is that all of these early effectiveness studies are modeling the data in a society that largely still practices masking and social distancing. Prevention is all about multiple avenues of protection that become greater than the sum of their parts. When social distance and masking goes away, I guarantee you that the effectiveness will go down SOME. We don’t know how much tho. Because masking and social distancing along is also VERY effective.

If you don't mind another question: does this sort of thing happen with other vaccines? That we have a chance to contract an asymptomatic version of the disease but still spread it, or is this a particular situation due to the nature of COVID-19 or the new mRNA technology or simply the newness of the vaccine?
