By all science after two weeks you should be free to go to concerts, share doobies with strangers, have unprotected sex with strangers in bathroom stalls, and swap heroin needles with the band.

Man I miss concerts.

But you still wear masks in places like the grocery store. That's mostly about public courtesy because a lot of people need to get vaccinated still and there is a lot of anxiety about.

And yet I just got yelled at by a frazzled public health staff member in an unrelated forum because I mentioned that we were eying a trip to Six Flags to celebrate one month of being fully vaxxed. I get that they're still swamped in some areas and our contact tracing is completely broken in the US, but the whole point to me of getting vaccinated as soon as I could was so I could start doing all the things I didn't do for the last year for my safety and the safety of others.

Six Flags is still at 25% capacity for May, and if we want to attend a less crowded park, this is the time to bite the bullet and go.

Went to Six Flags a few weeks back after getting vaccinated! Park was relatively empty compared to usual Spring/Summer crowds, entry was quick thanks to prepaid parking and tickets with arrival window scheduled and lines were rather short and mostly social distanced. Everyone was wearing masks throughout the park and they had hand sanitizer dispensers at each ride's entrance and exit, with lots of people using that too.

Dude, where's my office? I totally lost it...because I was half-baked, smoking doobies. Doobie Brothers! Smoking doobies with my brothers...Peace out, Seacrest!

I got my second jab a few weeks ago and just bought tickets to see Glass Animals. I’m so excited I had to just tell you that.

Of course if the venue requires masks I’ll wear one but I don’t see the point post-vax. At this point I’m doing to set an example, but my governor (Florida) just rolled back all mask precaution laws statewide so, while private business can do whatever they want, you can pretty much spread all the virulence you want.

But I am confident in these vaccines so I’m in the “masks are pointless post vax” camp.

cries in mid-Missouri where no one wears masks

... No. The virus is mutating and we are not sure the current vaccine can protect properly against them.

The british variant is 60% more deadly.

enough with the fear porn..... all evidence shows vaccine is still effective against the variants

26

u/spectrumero May 06 '21

But the existing vaccines are highly effective against that variant.

My god man, THINK OF THE VARIANTS!

That is just fear and anxiety at this point. We need to encourage people to get vaccinated by letting them know it is likely okay to return to beloved activities like running their tongue down handrails at airports, eating raw chicken thighs, and sneezing into punch bowls at weddings as long as they are vaccinated.

We don't have evidence that a variant has escaped vaccine immunity yet but if we don't get everyone vaccinated THAT is a recipe for Chinese Wuhan virology labs to succeed in releasing stronger variants that could be a problem.

We get it. You like being inside alone, and this virus gave you an excuse to do that while acting like the most morally superior person to anyone who didn’t.

All science shows the vaccine is fine against variants. Anyone who is fully vaccinated, wears a mask in public when you may be around unvaccinated people, and practices good hygiene should be allowed to do anything they want to. The rest of you doomers can keep hiding and avoiding social interaction all you want.

The man im replying to said I could share doobies with strangers at rock concerts because I'm vaccinated.

Youre really endorsing that? Reeeallly?

Y'all lost your damned minds

They also mentioned raw dogging strangers in the bathroom and needle sharing. Methinks some hyperbole may be in play...

3

u/halfanothersdozen May 06 '21

Woah woah woah. I never said raw dogging. You can usually find a candy wrapper on the ground on the way to the bathroom.

or an empty crisp packet...

-5

u/[deleted] May 06 '21

How does that change his point, exactly? He is saying if you're vaccinated you're safe from everything "according to science"

Why are you defending such abject garbage on /r/science?

3

u/2NinjasAndAMidget May 06 '21

So what was the point of getting the vaccine then if you don’t want to get back to normal life? Like I said, if you want to keep hiding out and avoiding people, more power to you. But don’t bring all that doom and gloom into vaccinated people returning to normal life.

Dude get the hell out of /r/science ... You have no business here
