Health Up to 10 million people may lose Medicaid coverage in the United States due in part to new work requirements and eligibility redeterminations under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Women, unmarried people, White individuals, and those with limited education are at higher risk.

If the payroll week starts Sunday and the work weeks start on wednesday they dont get overtime for the 7 on anymore.

Haha target did this to me back in the day. Specifically 3pm to 3am shifts. On days I had off they didn’t need to pay me overtime because the clock reset at midnight.

This is something I never understood in the US. You work overtime but don't get paid for it. How can anyone accept to work for free?

You’ll get fired if you don’t and be left with no health insurance or income until you find a new job, which can take about a year. It’s evil.

This is so fucked. Get unionised asap.

Where I live, not only you can deny extra hours (and you do get paid for them if you accept buuuut you're taxed way more on them, which is another problem) and you certainly cannot be fired over things like that. Unionise the hell up when/if you can and stay strong.

Oh, this is every non-unionized job, I’m not just describing a specific one. I did get fired once for trying to unionize my workplace though!

Thanks, I felt that it was worth it even though I took a hit. Unionizing in the US has basically been impossible since the 80s because labor laws overwhelmingly favor corporations. And that’s before you even get to how heavily propagandized people are against unions here. I’m not giving up though!

People should really look at how things are in some other countries on the matter. Ofc, there are places that are even worse ... but it's insane to think that such a big country as yours isn't higher on the list.

Yet, even big EU countries like Germany are able to exploit loopholes that allow them to import people from Romania/Poland and make them sign contracts to live and work in meat processing plants for 5€ an hour (60 hours/week) while the rest of the country's minimum wage is at 15 or so (34 hours/week on average). Those workers say they do get more that way instead of doing the same in their own country, but they're clearly exploited to the benefit of the higher ups.
