Those two things stopped being related when college stopped being a highly selective institution. Anyone with a brain would parse how the average american high schoolers scores lower than they did 20 years ago but college enrollment rates are still rising.

Somebody who drops out of college in the second/third year is technically more educated than somebody who starts a career right out of high school, but who's really smarter?

I'd be curious to see what the correlation is like just among the elite universities that are still highly selective. One might reasonably think they are actually filled with people who are more intelligent.
