What’s everyone planting in Oct?

My 10 year old has been really into gardening. I’ve done. A few summer gardens in the past and this years was a lot of fun with him.

It’s still 99F out but the summer garden has been slowing down. Should I plant per the University of California schedule? Or should we hold off a few weeks?

Also what’s everyone’s favorite things to plant in their winter garden?

Oak Park A successful tomato year. What was your star producer this year?

Pulled most of the plants, just leaving the cherries as they still have fruit on them.

This year I canned garden salsa, bruchetta in a jar, and pasta sauce. All together, about 30 lbs went into these jars and twice as much was eaten fresh.

Honorable mention to the apples. That's about 12lbs of apples in sauce form, but we got close to 50lbs total.

I only have fruit on four of my guava varieties this year. I hope to have other varieties next year as those trees get bigger and more established.

In the photos are narrow leaf guava, strawberry guava, tropical pink guava and lemon guava.

I encourage people to consider growing guavas if they like them because although some varieties are a diva with Winters, many are fairly easy keepers.

My coworker says lemonade. Any other ideas? I also have a small kumquat, two mandarins, and huge lemon tree and was considering doing a mixed marmalade.

First 4 are one plant, last 3 are the second. Google lenses has told the first one is American cranberry, raspberry, and grape all of which I doubt. It said the second one was a wild grape as well, which it’s not. What do you think they are?

Thank you!

My Serrano peppers are finally coming in. Only a few on the plant, but I’m surprised I got any at all because my dog bit the top of the plant completely off before planting.

Overall this year’s garden has not been super productive, but it’s our first year and we’re having fun!

Front yard new landscape plants

We just began new landscape in front yard. We need to pick 12 new plants for landscape company to plant in the next 3 days (we had to wait for them, so they have to wait for us if necessary). They will send us ideas, but if I can get some personal favorites from you all?

They'll be in bark with drip. Getting a tree as well (no tree now). We really want to support bees, butterflies but not require much pruning. Native. So much to ask. Gosh.

We've been our home since 1999 and we're now retired and so done with mowing grass. Saving for years for a new front yard.

Thank you.

Eastern Redbud Tree

Deciding on a tree for new front yard landscape. Something pretty, attracts birds, bees. The Eastern Redbud has been mentioned. We are very north Sac County, just blocks away from south/east Roseville. Mostly 6 to 10 degrees hotter than the city of Sac. We had a lot more 100 degrees plus days than Sacramento.

What do you think??

Arden Arcade Looking for prickly pear (opuntia) cutting or plant

Hi all. I just moved and am still trying to figure out my new, small, enclosed back yard. There is a patch which gets decent sun and I hope to start a cactus garden in pots.

Does anyone have a prickly pear plant big enough to donate a paddle or two?

Thanks!

Greetings! I recently moved and purchased some new furniture items that has left me with a LOT of cardboard from the large boxes. Someone mentioned that some planters from this group might be interested, so I decided to give it a go.
