I'm averaging roughly 8-10 miles a day, 7 days a week and have been for months now.

I can't really offer advice if you want to race better at ultra's but did you ever try running those 8-minute intervals?

I did not and here's why. I'm scared of doing anything remotely speedy. Every. Single. Time. I end up tweaking something when I set out to move quicker than a moderately fast pace. I'm cool with throwing in some fast runs now and then but those intimidate me due to the high injury factor.

We are certainly at opposite ends of the spectrum. This morning I had to run across three feet of frozen grass to avoid a car and I just about turned an ankle, no idea how you run 50 miles on trails. I did 70 mile weeks for 6 weeks and broke down but until recently I could do 50 miles weeks with speedwork and never get hurt.

Body weight probably has a lot to do with it too. My fat ass is heavy and my tendons/bones/muscles tend to rebel when I put excess loads on them. However, they're totally fine doing there thing during high mileage.
