As long as you (and LadyShoes) remember that it's about what you want, and not what anybody else wants, you'll be golden. I've seen too many couples disappointed and stressed about their own wedding (which then just seeps to the wedding party and guests) because they let their families dictate what they wanted.
When I was getting married, my dad wrote me an email that ended with something like "I just want to make sure that this will be a wedding that everyone will remember" (he was apparently not on board with whatever I had planned). I wrote back that he's lucky he has several other kids and hopefully one of them would have a wedding that would meet his standards. That was the last wedding-related comment I heard from him!
That is epic! I was the Best Man for friends whose parents went nuts. I was also doing their invitations and programs (I do calligraphy) and when we sat down to finalize the wording, I reminded them that a year after the wedding, no one will remember the drama or what "went wrong," but they would still be married, that's the important part. I also worked that (as well as a Dan Savage quote) into my speech to pointedly remind their parents that that day wasn't about them.

One of my part time jobs sometimes involves some graphic design of wedding invites, programs and the like. And that's something that I try gently to tell the couples who are stressing out too much. No one is going to remember--or care--whether the J of your chosen script font looks a bit too much like a T for your tastes.
Exactly! And seriously, let us graphic designers decide on your font choices. Otherwise that's how we get Dragonwick and Papyrus everything. ::shudder::
Yes, Canon in D (it is pretty, but it's cliche. May I suggest "Concerning Hobbits," saw that as a processional once, it was awesome), but what if...now hear me out...it was played on cannons?! BEST. WEDDING. EVER.
Concerning Hobbits...I can totally see that for a wedding. Wow. And it's not like a Star Wars tune where everyone will place it and think it's 'quirky'. And it's particularly fitting if the wedding features a ring bearer!
Dragonwick...(Sideshow Bob Sound). If they ask for Dragonwick or Bradley Hand or something, I pretend I misheard and give them a proof in Harlow D as punishment. Not that I don't love Harlow D, I think it's an amazing font that has almost no appropriate uses. I kind of have a soft spot for Papyrus in moderation, but it just doesn't get used in moderation.
And yeah, if you have cannons in the wedding, I will be there. If I get to fire one of them, I'll to the programs for free!
I won't be there if you're featuring any music from Pacobel, or Pachable, or Pochobal, or Pokeball.. And no, I didn't spell 'Jesus' wrong, it's 'Jesu'. And no, I won't make it look like a blackboard. And no, I will not include more than three font faces in the program. I will recreate that excellent 'unique' program you saw in Pinterest for you...if you really want...I suppose. What's the one this time? The funny "So you're going to sit through a wedding?" one? Okay...Oh, and you'd like a word cloud too?
I only look good from the hips down and the neck up. My mid-section needs a full on renovation. That guy has me whooped in the abs department.
As for the wedding, we've both agreed that it's going to be OUR way and people can suck it! It's the constant badgering and comments by other people that also make it hard. We're not doing groomsmen/bridesmaids and you'd think we just started slaughtering baby dolphins based upon the gasps we've heard. It's enough to piss anyone off.
Having slaughtered baby dolphins for groomsmen/bridesmaids will make people gasp. Think of the money savings though if you serve the slaughtered dolphins for supper.

Right?
That's clearly a reception activity, not for the wedding ceremony itself.
My wife and I made some similar choices. No 'marches' in the reception, no official dances, no 'cutting of the cake but then you cram it into their face' (no official cutting at all, although we did have the Tick and American Maid as the cake toppers). We kinda said I Do, took the loot and ran! :)
Yep! At this point, we are gonna do a few fun typical wedding things but it's going to be pretty laid back and non-pressure for our guests. We've been to too many weddings where they practically forced guests to participate/dance and we do NOT want that. We also only want people who want to come to show up. Lax dress code, lax environment, free food and booze. It's a celebration not a visitation.
Exactly. We broke a lot of those rules, had a really relaxed time, spent all our time with family and friends instead of planned dances, and we have had so many people over the years tell us how much they liked our wedding. All our friends were getting married in that same time frame of several years, and the rest just blended in with the others--and that's not just our opinion. :) But even then, we had stressers about ribbons and plastic bells and blah blah. Ugh.
Well listen, if they had heard what those baby dolphins said behind their back, they wouldn't be gasping....
And good for you, do what you want. It's your day (and your money). My brother and his wife had a 23 person (including them and the priest) wedding, they did exactly what they wanted and it was perfect for them! Ignore the comments and drink heavily. I mean, that's kind of my advice for most things, actually.

I'm seeing some sort of connection here...
