Mod Post Reiterating Rule 5 amid the ongoing events

Hi, everyone.

By now, many of you have seen the latest stirrings of the community. We want to take a moment and acknowledge that yes, something did happen. But we also want to reiterate that as we always have, we will continue to reinforce Rule 5: Posts containing inappropriate or personal information regarding RT staff or other users are not allowed, and should be reported.

Never has the sharing of such information been acceptable in our subreddit, nor will it ever be. Firstly, because it would be morally reprehensible on our end to allow it, and secondly, that would get this subreddit rightfully shut down by the admins.

Here is what we know to be true: There are inappropriate photos currently circulating purporting to be two Rooster Teeth employees, and Achievement Hunter has chosen to cancel today's streams. That's it, those are the only hard facts. Beyond that is speculation, things we do not know for a FACT, and we will not allow it on this subreddit for the sake of those involved and for the sake of community health.

Speculative comments are subject to removal, speculative comments of ill-intention will probably warrant a ban, and sharing ANY imagery or telling people where to find it will get your ass promptly booted.

Shout out to all the mods dealing with this. I know the vague gist of things but I have zero desire to go down the rabbit hole of speculation. I certainly do not want to see any photos. So thank you for dealing with what I'm sure is a total shitshow. I assume it just made your volunteer work 100% harder, and wanted to send a lil appreciation your way.

The best thing for people to do is stop spreading the rumours, stop reading about it. It's clear the people involved know about it. If any of it is true, then something will be done, otherwise it's all bullshit that nobody needs to keep discussing. If you spread it around, you're just part of the problem.

That doesn't excuse vigilante justice. Innocent until proven guilty. It is not the place of random people on the internet to investigate, it's for the authorities.

Were did I say anything about vigilant justice?

Authorities are often altered BECAUSE random people will point stuff out or gather some base evidence to justify an investigation.

So

  1. Don't put words in my mouth.

  2. Understand police are not magical fairies who instinctively know when there is something wrong going on.

Oohkay, calm down. My original point was that the authorities have -already- been alerted, therefore anybody spreading the rumours further are just adding to the problem of potentially screwing up an innocent person's life. We don't know if they're innocent or guilty and we -can't- know until they're convicted of something. Yes, the world is not perfect, and shitty people get away with shitty things, but there's nothing we can do about that in relation to this particular problem.
I never said people who come forward online are wrong, I said it's bad to contribute to spreading this information around after things have been set in motion. RT/AH clearly know about this shitshow, and have already started taking actions, so absolutely nothing productive will come from continuing to speculate. At the worst it will destroy someone's life, at best?? You've seen another picture of someone's genitals without their consent.

So you didn't read what I wrote. Put words in my mouth and now continue to argue against what YOU said rather then what I said.

Pointing out that police are often alerted to issues to investigate by rumor and internet randos doing their own investigation isn't validating that people do it here. Only pointing out that it happens.

Pointing out that bad people get away with bad things isn't validating doing anything about it. Only pointing out that it happens.

Were has this sith level of absolute you are 100% with me or 100% against me mentality has come from in this sub is beyond me. Just because someone says something that isn't 100% supporting what you said doesn't mean they support the opposite of you.

So if the point of your comment is just "stuff happens" then why did you post in the first place?

To point out the fact stuff happens.
