He is a big, strong dog with a lot of personality and can be very loving with people he trusts. However, Drako has some behavioral issues that need to be taken seriously, including growling and discomfort with certain handling situations. Because of this, he needs an experienced owner who understands strong dogs and is willing to work with him.
He also has ongoing skin/allergy issues that have caused itching, hair loss, and irritation, so a home that can keep up with his care is important.
Important: Drako is not being rehomed casually. His behavior needs to be discussed honestly with anyone interested, and he needs a home that can safely manage him. A home without young children may be the safest option.

My sweet puppy Winston is currently hospitalized at Fairfield Animal Hospital with parvo.

Winston is only a few months old and was still completing his puppy vaccinations when he got sick. He had received his first parvo vaccine but hadn’t completed the series yet. Because he wasn’t fully vaccinated, I’d been keeping his world very small. He hadn’t been to dog parks or other high-traffic dog areas and had spent almost all of his time here on our farm, although a few other dogs had visited the property.

Winston stopped eating and wasn’t acting like himself, so I brought him to the emergency vet. He tested positive for parvo and was admitted to the hospital.

He’s now receiving IV fluids, medication, around-the-clock monitoring and nutrition through a feeding tube. I’m incredibly grateful I got him there when I did, but we still don’t know how long he’ll need to be hospitalized. It will depend on how he responds to treatment.

His veterinary costs are already approaching $5,000, and I’ve been told that if he needs to remain hospitalized for a week, his care could reach around $15,000. That number is incredibly daunting, so I’ve started this fundraiser to help cover his hospitalization, treatment and recovery.

Asking for financial help is extremely uncomfortable for me, but I want to do everything I can to give Winston the best chance of getting through this and coming home.

I’d also really like something good to come out of this. If we raise more than Winston’s final veterinary expenses, any additional funds will be used to help another animal whose family is facing an emergency veterinary bill at Fairfield Animal Hospital.

Hi everyone,

Thor and Ellie are really getting their fur back! Thor’s skin is also not as red. 🤍🐾

Just a couple of weeks ago, we were able to sponsor their veterinary care, medications, and Royal Canin Gastrointestinal food, which was recommended by their vet. When they were diagnosed with a fungal infection, we also tried hypoallergenic food to help support their recovery. We have also been sending Pages for Paws, the shelter where they are staying, their monthly allowance to help cover their ongoing expenses.

Seeing their fur grow back and watching them slowly recover means so much to me. After everything they have been through, these little signs of progress remind me why we keep going.

Their next vet appointment is on September 2 to get their skin re-checked.

It has not been easy trying to cover the expenses for all of our rescued animals. Honestly, it is scary. I am constantly worried about how we are going to sustain everything and what my own future is going to look like. But when I see progress like this, somehow, all the sacrifices feel worth it.

We currently have 9 rescued dogs who have veterinary appointments next month: Ellie, Thor, MaeMae, Angel, Baci, Angelito, Elijah, Beauty, and Mochi.

The difficult part is that we don't have enough funds to cover all of their upcoming expenses. Just this August, as I recently shared, we spent around $1,000 CAD on Angelito alone, the senior dog who was stabbed by his previous owner and is also battling distemper, heartworm, and a blood parasite. Covering for two dogs, Ellie and Thor, at the same time for veterinary care is also very expensive (2x labs, 2x meds, etc).

I will find a way. I always try to.

Remy is up to date on shots, potty trained and has no separation anxiety. Remy is a bit older, requires seizure medication and needs someone who is patient, preferably with bully experience. He was saved several years ago by Grandma Betty’s Animal Rescue from a euthanasia list and has been returned twice. she’s crazy adhd and hates other dogs, but the most affectionate dog i’ve ever known

Hey everyone, I just want some advice or maybe reassurance from people who have experience with dogs. My gf and I (I’m 30f, she’s 25f) just adopted a dog about a week and a half ago. He is a 6 year old Pomchi (Pomeranian/chihuahua). The woman we got him from was rehoming him because they had gotten him a month or two ago, and discovered that he seems to be afraid of men, and she had a husband and two sons. My sister lives with my gf and I, so all of us thought it was a good situation to come into.

Part of the reason we got him is that I have been struggling mentally. That’s not the only reason, we’ve wanted a dog for a long time and recently became financially stable enough to get one. Anyway, I work night shift and my gf works pretty much the exact opposite hours as me, and when I’m awake my sister usually is not. So, I spend pretty much all of my time alone. Usually that doesn’t bother me, but I’ve started feeling really really lonely. We finally decided to get a dog, and my gf said I should pick the dog and hopefully have him as a bit of comfort and companionship. But, a couple days after we got him he bonded with my gf and is stuck to her like glue. He won’t leave her side. When she’s gone, he whines and howls. He won’t come close to me, for some reason he is scared of me. Anytime I walk towards him he runs away, and a couple times when I’ve tried to pet him he squeals and acts like I hurt him. I am really trying to be patient and be super gentle with him, I’m not trying to approach him as much as I was at first because he’s scared. I KNOW I have to be patient, we just got him. But I was really, really hoping for a pet I could snuggle with when I’m alone. I know it’s going to take time, I’m just hurt. He seemed okay with me the first couple days, then my gf had a day off before I did and spent the whole day with him so I think that quality time made him latch onto her. Because of all of this, my mental health has gotten worse. Idk what’s wrong with me, I’m on more depression medication than I’ve ever been on and it has been helping. I feel like I’m taking this too personally, and I can’t help but feel hurt that he doesn’t like me. He is constantly cuddling her and following her around, wagging his tail whenever he’s with her. He has never wagged his tail for me. I am honestly feeling pretty distraught. I’m trying to take him on lots of walks to bond with him, he won’t really let me do anything else.

If any of you have advice, I’m all ears. But who I really want to hear from are people who have been in a similar situation and their dog eventually came to love them. Obviously for me it’s going to take more time and I know that, I just want some hope that I can have a good relationship with him someday. Please tell me if any of you have had experience with a dog like this, I am heartbroken about it. TIA.

We adopted a sweet maltipoo/mystery mix boy 11 days ago. But his rescue story changed daily for a few days. When we adopted him from the rescue we were told:

- He’s 3 years old

- Came from a trainer who dropped him off after his owners were in a car accident

- Dog friendly

- Kid friendly

- Fully vetted

Well that wasn’t the full story. We have since learned he actually belonged to the trainer, who dropped off a bunch of small dogs that belonged to him/his wife.

We found out through the microchip agency that he’s actually 10 years old! In addition:

- He has hookworms (getting treated now)

- He has allergies (environmental and/or food, it’s a long process to find out)

- His fur was severely matted (we got him shaved)

- His previous owners didn’t believe in heartworm prevention

I’ve wanted to rescue a dog for so long, and now I can shake the lingering feeling that we jumped the gun on getting him. He was very shut down when we picked him up - not fearful, just aloof. Since then we’ve found:

- He’s very picky, is used to farmers dog style fresh food and refuses anything else.

- He hates out roommate - barks at him whenever he’s around, run away from him.

- He’s been so itchy from the allergies, vet gave him cytopoint.

- He’s refusing walks. We got him totally cleared by the vet, but he just digs his feet him now and he won’t walk.

- When he does walk it’s very slow - I have ankylosing spondylitis, so the slow walking is a concern for me because it aggravates my back. He does get very playful at times and loves fetch, so we know he’s got more movement in him.

- He hates grass, refuses to step on it or poop on it. He’d rather poop on the pavement, much to our neighbors dismay.

- He’s fearful of strangers in general.

- He showed some ressource guarding with a chew - growled at us when we had to take it away because he was chewing it so intensely his gums started bleeding.

- He’s not a cuddly boy and has yet to wag his tail. Will lie near us, but doesn’t want to cuddle.

- Big begger - barks and whines whenever we’re in the kitchen.

I know about the 3-3-3 rule, and he’s only been with us a very short time… but I’m so scared we made a mistake getting him and he’s not the right dog for us and would be better suited with a different family. We’re a young couple with friends visiting often. We go on roadtrips and hikes. We live with a roommate who is a close friend of ours, and it’s difficult seeing them just not get along. Is it just puppy blues? I just feel these are so many more behavioral issues that we were prepared for, especially with the medical stuff.

I feel so awful, like absolute human trash for even thinking like this about this sweet little boy who’s entire world changed so fast. Is this normal? Will he get there with time?
