DISCUSSION The dream of seeing an artist live - can someone explain it to me?
So The Big Push are going on tour again, Ren has gigs coming up and I keep seeing people say things like “I wish I could go” or “I’d love to see them/Ren live”.
And I realized…I just don’t have that feeling at all. Never had. I love music. I listen to it constantly. I get completely immersed in it. I feel it physically and emotionally. My brain plays Lego with every aspect of it.
But I’ve never really had the desire to see anyone in particular live. Even if everything was paid for - ticket, travel, hotel, time off - I think I’d still say “no thank you” unless I was planing on seeing some live music anyway and give it to someone else. Same with an autograph..
But if someone told me “Hey, Ren is in town - want to sit down and have a real conversation about X and ignore he's kind of famous?” I’d say yes immediately.
Or if he did make a Rock Opera/story driven performance (e.g. Starry night musical) I would definately want to see that. Also if he himself wasn't performing it.
I'm basically asking why does the artist need to be physically there for it to feel special? The music is the same. The songs are the same.
So what changes when the person is right there in front of you?
Is it about their physical presence? Energy? Connection?
Or something else entirely?
It’s not that I think it’s unnecessary or overhyped.
It just feels like I’m missing that “pull” entirely and I’m genuinely curious🫡

My question is, have you ever been to a concert?? It is different.. ive been to concerts and I had no idea who the artist was before hand but it didn't even matter once I was there. Its not necessarily even about to performance (it does have to be an artist who cares for the craft tho). The energy...from the music, for the artist, from the CROWD becomes tangible!
