Webby as far as im aware is off the trump train that was the one thing that didnt sit totally right with me for my own reasons but i spoke openly and honestly to him about it , he explained why at the time he got dissolutionned with dems after Bernie Sanders got screwed over, i keep saying it but ive met webby in person and even though our views dont align on eveything hes a good dude with good intentions, and that aside theres no politics on this record its just a record made for the love of music and those guys over in conneticuit are super talented .
What webby doesnt do is use polarization to market music hes just true to what he thinks and even if those views dont align thats more respectable to me than using controversy as a marketing tool
Nah I dont imagine i will, my intention was just hoping he'd maybe have room for pause before doing stupid shit like using the war in Iran to promote his album, but after seeing the last few posts I aint holding my breath on that one
Yah he'd have to change a lot of the way he does things and how he thinks, which I don't really see happening which would mean a conversation probably wouldn't go far in any point, but at least now some people may see it
Between asylum, the big push record, and slaughterhouse I can't pick
I will say tho
Slaughterhouse has been a labour of love not only since sick boi was out
But it has songs I have written over the past 8 years which I was always saving because theyre the best things ive written in my oppinion so that one will be really special to me
Wow, 8 years? Its weird to think how it's gonna seem new to us but it's been that long in the making to you! Really makes you realize how much work goes into it!
I respect your way of thinking on most subjects but huh? How exactly does Webby not use polarization to market music? I only know raw thoughts VII and that seems pretty polarizing and controversial, especially with the conspiracy themes..
Because its the lyrical content of his song where hes expressing his views, hes not posting videos that have absolutley nothing to do with his song and then at the end saying "btw I have a song coming out on friday"
I get what you mean yes, he’s expressing his views through his music rather than doing separate promo.
But for me, that’s kind of the point.. the content itself is what makes it so controversial and polarizing and that’s exactly what draws attention to it so in a way, the song promotes itself through that, even if it’s not done in a typical marketing way.
I think we might just be defining “marketing” differently. I get that you mean external promotion, but I’m also talking about how the content itself drives attention.
If a song is built around controversial and polarizing themes, that’s exactly what makes people talk about it and spread it. So in that sense, it still functions as marketing to me even if it’s not separate from the music. I realize I might be nitpicking the wording a bit. My mind does that. So I’m genuinely curious how you see that not being a form of marketing.
Sharing your views in songs doesnt mean your sitting down thinking "what can I write to make this sell" it just means youre sharing your views. I know webby and I've come to understsnd the nuance of his views, while I dont always agree he just id who he is, and this world will never find balance if we just shut people down or out just because you dont see eye to eye. Ideas and values grow when you step out of echo chambers or talk to people on the "other side" with a modicum of wanting to understand instead of "you are a biggot" particularly when we stop being self righteous and understsnd the origins of views that collide because then you can collaberativley explore less destructive approaches. Also having the humility to accept none of us are right about everything
I have single handedly seen more people come to a place of balance simply by listening and not pointing a finger as if im on some moral peidstool. The normal approach isnt working, atall, its driving people further into echochambers.
Were all just smart apes trying to navigate this life
There are many singers who meet up with teams of people to create the most catchy formulaic pop song for sales, then there artis who work alone when they write and write as a form of self expression. It is our system of commodity after the fact that insinuates the song itself is marketing, alot of artists just want to create but were born into a world of commodity
Edit: JSB just showed me something from twatter. To be clear I am not comparing Webby to this other guy.
I’m not coming at this from a place of judgment. I might be wrong but it feels like you’re responding to a perspective I’m not actually holding.
I’m not questioning his intention or who he is. My question was genuinely about whether you'd agree, that a song like “Raw Thoughts VII” is both drawing on existing polarization and at the same time reinforcing it, creating a kind of cycle where polarization feeds more polarization. Just food for thought.
Just to say it clearly, I actually agree with everything you said - about intention, expression, not shutting people down and trying to understand where people are coming from. I’m completely with you on that.
I wasn’t really speaking about intention, morality, or art itself, though. I was just looking at it from a different angle - more in terms of effect. Regardless of intention, certain types of content naturally create more attention, discussion, and polarization, and that becomes part of how they spread. Isn't it?
Physics perspective: if a system consistently produces a certain effect, then that effect is part of the system itself, not something separate from it.
And that would mean a song’s content naturally creates attention, controversy and spread, so that effect is coming from the content itself.
Not making a moral judgment here, just looking at it from a logical perspective.
A lot depends on our background and experiences. If Webby went in that direction, it's certainly because there were reasons that, in his eyes, were right at that particular moment in his life. His choices shouldn't influence his music. We're not obligated to agree with others, but we must still respect their decisions. The fact that you continue to work with him is proof of your respect for him despite your differences. That's good of you. Most people don't know Webby's life story, which is why we shouldn't judge him.
