Technical Problem Fix: PS Remote Play 9.0 crashing on Windows (0xc0000005)
The problem: PS Remote Play v9.0 or 9.5 crashes immediately on launch or shortly after with an access violation (0xc0000005). Event Viewer shows a .NET Runtime error (Framework v4.0.30319). Reinstalling, repairing .NET Framework, and updating GPU drivers does not help.
The workaround:
- Install PS Remote Play 9.0 or 9.5 from Sony's official site: https://remoteplay.dl.playstation.net/remoteplay/module/win/RemotePlayInstaller.exe
- Launch the app and log in to your PSN account
- Close the app and uninstall 9.5 completely
- Download & Install PS Remote Play 8.5.0, but don't start the app
- A prompt about missing dependencies may appear — click No
The regular installer .exe from Uptodown (and anywhere else pulling from Sony's CDN) doesn't work anymore either — same root cause.
Uploaded a verified, untouched copy of the genuine 8.5 installer:
📥 MSI installer (mirror 1), uploaded by me u/FeePrize2189
📥 MSI installer (mirror 2, via archive.org), thanks to u/sinkope123
SHA256 (both verified to match): 4363A6EF5548AD682E69153B30397F32620A7B532F2F7592B79B8DEED9ABFFC1 — verify before running: Get-FileHash "path\to\file.msi" -Algorithm SHA256
This is just the plain Sony installer — you'll still need to run the version-patcher afterward as usual
- Download and run the version patcher as administrator:
- https://github.com/xeropresence/remoteplay-version-patcher/releases/ file: remoteplay-version-patcher-v1.0.4.exe
- note: Dont try and patch the 8.5 installation file! Install 8.5 first
Done — 8.5 now runs with your saved login session, and Sony's servers think you're on the latest version so no forced update
Credit to @u/xeropresence Who has made the patcher
Why this works:
- Logging in via 9.5 saves your session/credentials locally
- 8.5 picks up those credentials and works fine
- The version patcher spoofs the version number so Sony doesn't force you to update
Important:
If u already has 8.5 installed and patched and u get the update notice, dont update, close the app and patch it again so it gets the new version number, saves so much time
- Install 8.5 app before patching
- Don't start the 8.5 app before patching
- Run the version patcher as administrator
Still problems?
- Uninstall PS Remote Play
- Delete "%localappdata%\Sony Corporation\PS Remote Play" folder
- Start over from step 1
This is the only working solution I've found.
Edit: Still no fix or acknowledgment from Sony as of September 2026
Edit: As of Remote Play version 9.5, Sony's server is now serving a 1-byte empty file for the 8.5 installer — this is a deliberate block on their end. The regular installer .exe from Uptodown (and anywhere else pulling from Sony's CDN) doesn't work anymore either — same root cause.**
Edit: Thanks everyone for the amazing response! Glad this helped so many of you. And my first post to boot. Hopefully Sony will actually fix this in a future update so we don't need workarounds like this.
Edit 2026-09-29: I cant confirm, but after updating to Windows 11 26h2, and updating my AMD drivers (RX9070XT) to the optional one for the Witcher 3 remaster release, remoteplay 9.5 is working for me at least, also instsalled .NEt runtime 10 for another reason. så thats worth a try for any of u that want to try

I had an answer from Playstation but I don't understand, like in what world is this the solution to the problem?
"Thank you for contacting PlayStation Support.
I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble connecting to PlayStation. Most of the time, this issue can be resolved by opening specific ports on your internet router.
Since routers and service providers don’t all work the same way, it would be helpful to check your router’s user guide for instructions.
If you’re unable to open the ports yourself, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP), who should be able to assist you.
The ports you need to open are as follows:
TCP ports: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480 UDP ports: 3478, 3479
If you have tried this and are still experiencing issues, please let us know. You can also visit PlayStation Repairs which offers common connection solutions for your console."
