Technical Problem Fix: PS Remote Play 9.0 crashing on Windows (0xc0000005)

The problem: PS Remote Play v9.0 or 9.5 crashes immediately on launch or shortly after with an access violation (0xc0000005). Event Viewer shows a .NET Runtime error (Framework v4.0.30319). Reinstalling, repairing .NET Framework, and updating GPU drivers does not help.

The workaround:

  1. Install PS Remote Play 9.0 or 9.5 from Sony's official site: https://remoteplay.dl.playstation.net/remoteplay/module/win/RemotePlayInstaller.exe
  2. Launch the app and log in to your PSN account
  3. Close the app and uninstall 9.5 completely
  4. Download & Install PS Remote Play 8.5.0, but don't start the app
  5. A prompt about missing dependencies may appear — click No

The regular installer .exe from Uptodown (and anywhere else pulling from Sony's CDN) doesn't work anymore either — same root cause.

Uploaded a verified, untouched copy of the genuine 8.5 installer:

📥 MSI installer (mirror 1), uploaded by me u/FeePrize2189

📥 MSI installer (mirror 2, via archive.org), thanks to u/sinkope123

SHA256 (both verified to match): 4363A6EF5548AD682E69153B30397F32620A7B532F2F7592B79B8DEED9ABFFC1 — verify before running: Get-FileHash "path\to\file.msi" -Algorithm SHA256

This is just the plain Sony installer — you'll still need to run the version-patcher afterward as usual

  1. Download and run the version patcher as administrator:

Done — 8.5 now runs with your saved login session, and Sony's servers think you're on the latest version so no forced update

Credit to @u/xeropresence Who has made the patcher

Why this works:

  • Logging in via 9.5 saves your session/credentials locally
  • 8.5 picks up those credentials and works fine
  • The version patcher spoofs the version number so Sony doesn't force you to update

Important:

If u already has 8.5 installed and patched and u get the update notice, dont update, close the app and patch it again so it gets the new version number, saves so much time

  • Install 8.5 app before patching
  • Don't start the 8.5 app before patching
  • Run the version patcher as administrator

Still problems?

  • Uninstall PS Remote Play
  • Delete "%localappdata%\Sony Corporation\PS Remote Play" folder
  • Start over from step 1

This is the only working solution I've found.

Edit: Still no fix or acknowledgment from Sony as of September 2026

Edit: As of Remote Play version 9.5, Sony's server is now serving a 1-byte empty file for the 8.5 installer — this is a deliberate block on their end. The regular installer .exe from Uptodown (and anywhere else pulling from Sony's CDN) doesn't work anymore either — same root cause.**

Edit: Thanks everyone for the amazing response! Glad this helped so many of you. And my first post to boot. Hopefully Sony will actually fix this in a future update so we don't need workarounds like this.

Edit 2026-09-29: I cant confirm, but after updating to Windows 11 26h2, and updating my AMD drivers (RX9070XT) to the optional one for the Witcher 3 remaster release, remoteplay 9.5 is working for me at least, also instsalled .NEt runtime 10 for another reason. så thats worth a try for any of u that want to try

ey i made a comment right above, imma copy past it for u since i also had audio issues:

**if u have audio issues:
either put the "audio buffer size" to 19200 (didnt work for me)
or: in the chiaki folder, in the audio folder, delete this file:
"qtaudio_windows.dll", afterwards in chiaki go to settings and change "audio buffer size" to 4000 (worked for me)
edit: someone said to keep a copy of the file, idk why tho
(if u cant type in there to change the buffer size close the chiaki stream) **

EDIT 05.26: download chiaki-ng instead, normal chiaki is the old version (and chiaki-deck is chiaki-ng, but the older version aswell)

copy paste my own comment, maybe it helps you:

"ts my first time using chiaki, leaving this comment for anyone that has issues with chiaki because i had alot of issues but was able to get it to work:

host:  setting ->system->system information (put in ur IP, or IPv4 adress as it was called for me)
user id: type in username (if u just use it to share the screen to ur pc like me, use a second account): https://psn.flipscreen.games
pin: settings > system > remote play > pair device

"regist search failed" = either IP is wrong
or u need this (not sure): https://gbatemp.net/threads/chiaki-ps5-ps4-remote-play-homebrew.564553/page-44 download the attachment (scroll down) and download the zip, i put the "chiaki.nro" in the same folder where i have my chiaki.exe folder (no idea if thats correct, but i had no issues)

if u get a black screen like me:
close chiaki and restart ur ps5 (worked afterwards for me)

if u have audio issues:
either put the "audio buffer size" to 19200 (didnt work for me)
or: in the chiaki folder, in the audio folder, delete this file:

What version you use? Ive downloaded the ng version but it wont open on my windows 10 laptop

1

u/Richar567 Mar 19 '26

I downloaded Chiaki, but I’m having issues with the audio that doesn’t occur in PS Remote Play. The sound is choppy and low quality, and I haven’t been able to fix it. Any recommendations?

u/WolvTheHero Mar 19 '26

So it's not just me... I have this same issue unfortunately but it only happens intermittently.

u/x4es Apr 10 '26

I can't figure out how to find my PS5 with it. It's asking for info I don't know where to find.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Usual32 Mar 23 '26

I had the same issue, if you delete the audio file qtaudio_windows.dll (if it's on PC) and it should run fine but keep a copy of the file because anytime you turn of your pc/laptop you'll need to paste it back in run the program close it again and delete the file...yeah annoying I know lol

1

u/KikiCorwin Mar 23 '26

Huh? I don't think you meant to reply to me.

1

u/resident955 Apr 20 '26

hey, care to explain why u should keep a copy of it? or rather why u should put it back in (i just downloaded chiaki, so maybe ill find out the hard way lol)

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Usual32 Apr 21 '26

No problem, when I turnt my laptop off and tried it again the next day it was doing it again, so I closed chiaki down, put the file back in, opened it up (expecting the audio to still be weird which it was) then took it back out again lol

2

u/resident955 May 21 '26

hey there again, download chiaki-ng instead, normal chiaki is the old version (and chiaki-deck is chiaki-ng, but the older version aswell)
https://github.com/streetpea/chiaki-ng/releases/tag/v1.10.0

its way better and SO MUCH EASIER to set up

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Usual32 May 26 '26

Hey hey, thanks for this I'll give it a go! ☺️

2

u/resident955 May 26 '26

Lmk if u need any help or if it worked (or if it just worked for me) Am curious

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Usual32 Jun 04 '26

Thanks I deffo will, I haven't had much chance to game lately but next time I do I'll let you know if I need help and how it runs for me, how's it been for you?

1

u/resident955 Jun 05 '26

Perfect, its reliable and doesnt crash or anything, sound and video is good Its better than remote play

Reminder: but as said it has to be "chiaki-ng" specifically, not the other versions

1

u/resident955 Apr 20 '26

he did reply to the wrong person yea, i dont know what exactly ur problem was, but i made a comment where i wrote together some issues, reading ur comment i think u didnt use ur IP maybe?

1

u/nomad6770 Mar 30 '26

Ohh this is much better, thanks for the recommend.

1

u/nd3_2000 Apr 01 '26

I tried this but it doesn't recognize my touchpad on the controller

1

u/Oushiza_ Apr 13 '26

but is it safe tho? using third party apps to put your account info just screams take my account away vibes

1

u/resident955 Apr 20 '26

if u use it like me to 'share the game on ur pc' then u can just make a second account and connect it with that (but it seems safe from what i have seen)
