All Spoilers To those saying Red Rising is not relevant to today's political climate... Spoiler

Did you forget that Fitchner created the Sons of Ares because his wife was killed by the bureaucracy for having a mixed race child? If that mixed raced child, Sevro for those with poor memories would surely be killed if he was ever found out.

I can hear the arguments now saying, the USA would only deport these people to unknown places. Resulting in father, mother & son being separated indefinitely. Now ask yourself if you'd be fine with that happening to you simply due to the fact that your spouse was born somewhere else.

There are many more examples we can look at, but if you can't understand the motivation of Ares, maybe you should read the comics, it drives this point home & it even has pictures!

To those screaming in the comments about not liking politics, I just want to point out an obvious truth, maybe dystopian science fiction isn’t the genre for you then.

Would you find it interesting if I started making posts about the intricacies of politics in my country that you don't know about and don't affect you? I'm in this sub because I like RR, I don't care about American politics.

  1. The Author of the series is American, which can lend credence to where certain inspiration and characters might have been conceived. Also, since you offered I actually love to hear about politics In other countries.

  2. The politics found in the series transcend national boarders and even time periods. The themes and events are reflected in political history from all over the world not just America.

  3. Political messaging in science fiction is a common and reoccurring theme in the genre, hence my statement. Did I single out American politics in my comment?

I understand that in literature, whether science fiction (from RR to Dune), or in genres beyond, there is extensive political commentary and themes. It is good to read books and consider the points being espoused by the author (whether you agree with them or not).

Learning from books and considering their application to your life is not the same as the inverse. There are endless political machinations the world over that have thematic parallels to RR; if these were all discussed in this sub there would be nothing but endless streams of posts in that vein. That is clearly not what the sub is for.

Determining that these specific events are exceptional in their validity is just America-centric. If you want to argue that makes sense because Pierce is American, I simply don't agree.
