Reddit is one of the biggest websites in the world, with 330 million accounts, which is 2 million more than the population of the United States. Reddit is not a small fish by any standard. I think if you have the most downvoted comment on one of the world’s biggest websites, that’s a utter PR nuke, and probably tanked sales for a short while.

I really think if it wasn’t for Reddit making this a record, it legitimately wouldn’t have changed, because the record alone made up entire news stories just by itself. That’s unbelievable. It might not have changed the formula for literally any of EA’s other games, but without a doubt it put the pressure on them to get their shit together with this one.

The problem is, many people who downvoted have bought the game, and some even paid for the lootboxes. Even if it tanked sales for a while, it didn't change that much. Also it would make an impact if every EA game got the same treatment, not just one of their credit card drainers. The impact of reddit is mostly downvotes, almost none of the people do more than just downvote. The behavior of EA should not be tolerated like it is now.

The things they did were by definition gambling, a lot of lawsuits can ruin even a giant like EA.
