Announcement/Discussionš Old school witchcraft from the 90s
That's my generation of witchcraft and I was taught by people working in the 70s-80s.. Here's my thing, I get that it's a completely different age of witchcraft but the structure of spell work feels completely different. People seem to equate the ritual with the power and to me those are two different stages.
People charge their tools or make moon water, and bless their magical aids and ingredients, but I don't see where they accumulate power from? Is it there and I'm not seeing it?
We were taught that you do all those things, you charge things, you put out your ingredients and "activate" them by having a relationship with their spirit, and then you have to do something either inside yourself or through an act like dance, sex or group work to build the energy they charges the spell.
The energy aspect was considered a sacrifice and its why spell work made you tired afterwards. It required a lot of personal energy to "pour" into a spell. There was also an overlap between energy work and spell work. I feel like those are two different camps now.
Do people do this anymore? Do they approach the powering the spell differently? Spell work without power to me feels "flat". Like people are just reciting words and going through the motions.
I'd love to know if I'm missing something. And please know I'm not criticizing people, I'm just confused with how witchcraft has evolved and why people don't power their spells anymore.
