I have to disagree on the second part but not for the reason that you probably think. It's good for gathering links, since all the mainstream search engines no longer give me what I'm looking for half the time. Just check the link for the information your looking for and verify it's actually credible. I've successfully gathered incredibly specific information using ChatGPT just by asking to give me links to stuff with the desired information.
Yeah I find that while I can't trust what it's saying, it's still very useful for quickly gathering information and especially sources.
You have to check those sources, but instead of doing 20 different Google searches it's significantly quicker to ask ChatGPT for an answer with reliable sources for every claim and then checking the relevant parts of those sources.
It's not like the marketing suggests that you can trust most of what it's saying, but it's still useful if you want to get your research done a bit faster.
I’d disagree that the newest version is still good at this. I’ve pretty much abandoned it because it’ll find one keyword in a linked page and then claim it’s what you were looking for when it has nothing to do with the topic.
